-< Need directions to Bretwood(sp) in Keene N.H. >-
This aren't very precise, but I hope it helps:
Take route 2 west to Rt 140 north, Winchendon. Stay on 140 till the end,
where it meets Rt 12 in Winchendon. Take a left onto 12 and stay on it all
the way into Keene. You come to a set of lights at which 12 takes a left;
go STRAIGHT through the lights into downtown Keene (nice downtown, by the
way). Go halfway around the rotary and exit onto Center Street, I believe.
There's a small Sears store straight ahead when you turn off the rotary.
Keep going straight on Center St. (although it may become some other street
as you get out of the downtown area) for about two miles or so. Brentwood
will be on your left.
They added 9 holes a few years ago and this year opened up another 9,
making, I'm told, a nice, tough new 18.
Enjoy.

| We played Bretwood yesterday as a foursome. All of us are primarily
from the Greater Maynard Area. We all met in Fitchburg and rode
together from there. All told it took about 1.5 hours to get there
door to door.
We had reservations for the North Course $28.00 green fees, $2.00 for
a small bucket of balls beforehand on grass practice tees! I noticed
a practice sand trap as we drove-in. The putting green is a pretty
good match to the course greens. We played from the blue tees (6400+
yards). The course conditions were great, the greens were fast and
very true, the layout was very challenging and the price was right.
A little about the course:
- #1 is straight ahead par 4, hit a driver 5 iron to the front of the
green
- #2 trouble left (stream), long hole, water in play on the right for
second shot
- #3 is a great par three, elevated tee, hit a five iron from 175
- don't hit more than a four or five wood on #4, trouble right and
left, dogleg right, well bunkered.
- the fairway trap on five is larger than you think, the pin was all
the way back left, tough par 5.
- #6 keep your eyes on the 150 yard posts on both sides of the
fairway, I misjudged where I was on #6 and hit a 4 wood well over
the green, a missed opportunity.
- #7 is a little strange, double dogleg, hit to the first dogleg and
pitch out to middle of the fairway, not mutch needed from there to
get to the green. Lots of traps on the hill as you approach the
green.
- #9 hit it to the middle of the fairway, trouble right and left
- #10 keep it to the left and long, to get a good shot at the green
- #11 nice par 4, dogleg left over a stream, anywhere to the corner
gives you a 6 to an 8 iron to the green
- #12 right side opens up off the tee, left can block you out
- #13 signature hole, island green, between and short 8 and long 9
iron, pin was in front
- #14 nice par three, 8 iron from almost all the way back
- #15 water on the left, and trees on the right
- #16 tough par four, you don't want to go right (like I did!)
- #17 another good par 4 (fell apart on this one too)
- #18 you need a good drive to be on in two, I hit the green in two
from 145 with a nine iron that rolled-on, (missed the birdie put by
an inch)
I would rate this course better than Wachusetts and by far much
better than Stow Acres.
We will be back....

Does anyone have a score card from Bretwood? Our League will
be holding a tournament there and I'd like to input the pars,
handicaps, yardages, slope and rating into our software before
heading up there.
If you do, send mail or call, and I'll give you a FAX or M/S to
get the information over to me.
Thanks!!!
