| I just returned from San Jose a couple of weeks ago. I had
reservations (for one) on Pebble, but it was the week before the AT&T,
and with the heavy rains and all, they were closed. They were very
nice and called to other courses to get me on. It's very easy getting
on as a single, should be even at Pebble. You can call only one day in
advance for a reservation as a single.
The first day I was sent over to Spanish Bay. It's a beautiful seaside
links course. Most of the holes are built through the dunes. None of
the holes are over or adjacent water. It was also very wet, with a
couple of fairways having standing water (above soletops). I was told
SB is probably the best drained of the Pebble courses. Very nice. I
don't recall exactly, but green fees were ~$150 - 175. Pebble is
supposed to be $225. Yardage/rating/slope is: Blue 6820/74.6/142,
White 6078/72.1/133, and Red 5309/70.6/129.
The next day I was sent to Old Del Monte. This is also owned by the
Pebble. It's supposed to be the oldest course west of the Mississippi.
It's actually inland, near Hiway 1. It's a typical course. They had
six temporaries though. The price was right, only $85, I think.
Yardage/rating/slope is: Blue 6278/70.8/122, White 6007/69.5/119, and
Red 5431/71.1/118.
Pebble by contrast is: Blue 6799/74.4/142, White 6357/72.1/138, Red
5197/71.9/130.
I have a friend living in San Jose, so the next time I get our there I
am definitely going to do Pebble and Spyglass (Cypress is private, I
believe). Report back how Pebble is.
