1964.0. "Tournament Players Club on DEC land" by USPMLO::DESROCHERS (Mine's made outta unobtainium!) Mon Nov 07 1994 18:09

Anyone know anything about this? Last week I read that the
land that Digital owns in Plymouth (off rt 3, I guess) was
sold to the PGA for $200 million!!

Plan is to build a Tournament Players Club and hold a
tournament there. I believe there are only about a dozen
    	Players Club courses so far.

    	Sounds pretty neat!

I did read something in the paper about six months ago about land in
Plymouth that Digital owned. It seemed some townspeople were not happy
about who Digital wanted to sell it to. I don't think it was the PGA
though. I'm all for a TPC.

Hope is true. This would most likely bring another tour stop to New
    England.

I played the TPC outside Hartford (site of the Greater Hartford Open)
about 5-6 years ago with some customers since Digital had a Corporate
membership. Does anyone know if we still have that membership? (I
doubt it, due to cost cutting messures). Or in a related question,
Does Anyone know if TPC's allow any kind of public access?

DIGITAL EQUIPMENT CORPORATION AGREES TO SELL
UNDEVELOPED PLYMOUTH PROPERTY TO PRIVATE BUYERS

MAYNARD, Mass. -- November 8, 1994 -- Digital Equipment Corporation today
announced it has signed a purchase and sale agreement with two private
buyers, Thomas F. Wallace and Walter J. Wallace, for a 3,400-acre parcel of
undeveloped land in Plymouth, Massachusetts. A closing is expected on the
 sale in the spring.
The Wallaces plan to develop the property into a multi-use complex.
Some of the proposed uses include a championship golf course, a hotel/
conference center, an office park, upscale retail space, a residential area,
an agricultural component and substantial open space.
Thomas F. Wallace commented, "This will be a truly unique project. To
my knowledge, no one else in New England has undertaken a development
project of this size. We expect this project will have a positive impact on
Plymouth, its tax rate and its local economy. As an 18-year resident of the
town, I am committed to working with the community and its key individuals
to make the complex work in the best possible way for Plymouth."
"As part of our real estate consolidation, the company is disposing of
assets for which we have no future plans," said Michael Babini, Digital's
Real Estate Services manager. "Digital is sensitive to the needs of the
town, and we are very positive about the direction of the master plan for
this project. We believe it holds tremendous potential for the town and the
 surrounding area."

Not that this has anything to do with this topic, but did anyone watch
any of the Grand Slam event last night from Hawaii? I only caught the
last five holes but what a sight... Playing into the wind on a par
five hole, Greg Norman had to hit a 7 iron from 105 yards to reach pin
high to the green on his third shot. I don't know the distance of the
hole. On the next hole, a 427 yard par 4, he drove the green with the
wind at his back... On the 18th hole, a 550 par 5, Ernie Els had only
145 yards to the pin after his drive. A paltry 400 yard drive. It was
quite and interesting round to watch.

Yeah, totally out of the notes title topic, but I did watch the Grand
Slam. In the last hole, Norman hit an 8 iron 180 yards! I know he
can hit it long but definitely the wind was playing a big role.

Back to the subject, no mention in any of the press releases of the
devloper being associated at all with the PGA tour, so I guess the
info of them building a TPC was incorrect. It seems to be only your
run of the mill housing development with a good private track.
