Does anyone know the name of the golf course in Waterville, Maine?

    Has anyone played there recently?

    Thanks!

If you are referring to the course in the Waterville Valley Ski area,
it is in New Hampshire, not Maine, and it is not worth the trip. It
is a small 9 hole course, made by seeding the land as they found it
and building small greens in awkward places.

The area is fun for the family since they have a lot of other
activities (boats, tennis, skate rentals, indoor swimming pool,
theater, etc, but the golf is just there to practice your swing or
    for tourists to try it.

I'm looking for the course in Waterville, MAINE. It received 3 or 4
stars in some NE golf course guide I saw earlier this year.

Jack,

I'll assume your talking about Waterville CC and not Pine Ridge (9 hole par 3).
Waterville CC is a very beautiful course layout aesthetically! Though with
the impending frost the flowers are perhaps at risk. It is a semi private
type course so you had better call ahead for a tee time before venturing a
long way, though there are some other very good courses in the area if you
choose to wing it. 40 miles to the east is the Samoset and 70+ miles to the
north is Sugarloaf, both resort type courses. Kennebec Heights CC (Cornish and
Silva designed back 9, my old home course formally Green Meadow GC), Natanis GC
(27 hole public, new home course) and a private course Augusta CC.

WCC is one of the older courses in the state. The greens are perhaps a bit
firmer than most though with all the rain this past weekend... The back nine
is par 5less 8^) so I'll assume it's a par 70. The par 4's are very long on
the back though as I recall. It lives up to it's rating! Foliage is close to
peek this weekend too! It's very close to I95! Worth the trip! Let me know
if you need any additional info...

    Kevin,

Thank you for the information. Waterville is closed due to a
member-member tournament. Would you recommend Kennebec or Natanis?

Jack,

I've called both places and they have nothing too major planned for this weekend
so all you have to do is choose the location and time. As for the choice of
those two... If you'd like to play more than 18 then I'd go to Natanis. If you
like tuff greens to putt on due to slopping/undulating greens head for Kennebec
Heights. If your looking for some difficult greens to hit then choose Natanis.
If your looking for a tight course and many hazards choose Kennebec Heights.
If your looking to boost your ego and have a few more eagle putts choose
Natanis. I miss the difficulty of Kennebec Heights so I'd have to say play
there. Let me know what you choose and I can perhaps set up a tee time for
you, though send me mail as I'll monitor that more closely!

Kevin, thanks for the tip. We played the Natanis Arrowhead and
Tomahawk 9's. As forecast, the course is short with small, hard
greens. Many of the par 4's were reachable with a good drive. On
Tomahawk #5, my son put his drive on the fringe....that's 360 yds with
a slight tail wind and down hill. Many holes played easier than they
looked. Lots of open space up around the greens that you can't see from
the tee boxes. This is a course you should be able to score on.

The view from the Arrowhead 6th tee is spectacular, mountains, a big
lake, fall foliage. I also liked the 7th on Tomahawk. Dogleg left with
a large tree in the middle of the dogleg. I cut the corner chipped on
and over the green the small elevated green. Chpped back and 1 putt
for a nice par. We had sun for the first 9, wind and rain for the
second. This course is a good value at $20 on a Sunday. The condition
was one notch below Amherst GC where our league plays.

    Jack,

It's a shame that you didn't get to play Indian Territory. It has 6 new
holes that are cut through woods (3 old). Those are the holes that play
the tightest and you would have enjoyed perhaps more so. I've also
almost driven the 5th as well!... The 7th I've been pin high on the
drive and taken a double boogie! arrrgh

If you think the 6th at Arrowhead has a great view, make a point to
play Sugarloaf and Mingo Springs next year, they have some much higher
elevation tee to greens... (Carrabassett Valley and Rangly
respectively) and of course WCC. The Third weekend in Sept. is the
    best on average for foliage.

    Kevin,
