1916.0. "A choice for this weekend..." by RANGER::GORCZYCA (PATHWORKS/NetWare Product Manager) Thu Jun 30 1994 01:47

Hi,

I know that there was some discussion about the merits of the course at
Wentworth-by-the-sea, but I forgot it. Basically, I want to play one of the
best courses in the SouthEastern N.H./NorthEastern MA area this Saturday
and seem to have 2 choices:

	1) The Portsmouth C.C.

	2) Wentworth-by-the-sea C.C.

Anyone care to compare the merits of the 2, or suggesst some other option?

Thanks,
John

Well, I've never played either one, but my wife played in a company outing
at Portsmouth last fall. She said the course was fantastic. Nice layout,
well conditioned course.

Wind will be a factor at both; Portsmouth is on Great Bay, and Wentworth
is on an inlet from the ocean.

BTW, I'm pretty sure both are "semi-private". The public may not be able to
get a tee time until after noon (or 1:00 or 2:00 or whatever).

I have not played Portsmouth CC, but I have played Wentworth many
times. I love Wentworth (a Donald Ross design) because it is a Links
style golf course with the terrain being left quite natural. I also had
my career round at the Wentworth last year (77 from the Tips) so I am
very biased needless to say! Be prepared for an expensive round of golf
if you chose to play at Wentworth. I believe the weekend rate is
roughly $50.00 (including cart). One of my good friends is an ex-golf
pro and his best buddy is the pro at Portsmouth CC. I guess the course
is super and in great shape this year. Much different than the
Wentworth as far as layout goes. Portsmouth is long and flat where as
the Wentworth is reletively short and bumpy with somewhat tight
fairways (If your good with long irons you should fair well). I hope
to play Portsmouth CC sometime this year. If you play it let us know
    how it went.

Some Other places to play which are decent courses and not to far away from
    Portsmouth are:

Sagamore GC (Hampton) Wide open and fun to play
Pease GC (Portsmouth) Very nice little Municipal course
Cape Arundel (Kennibunkport (Sp?) Maine) Short links style
golf club. George Bush is a member.
Exeter CC Small nine hole course??
A new course in Salem NH (dont know the name)

Good Luck with Tee-times and enjoy!

South Nashua (exit 1) is Sky Meadow. Rated very high as are the greens
    fees. Monday - Thursday $52.50 Friday $62.50 Sat/Sunday $72.50. Price
includes golf cart. From all that I have heard this is a great course.

Does that include a cart, too?

The price at Sky Meadow in Nashua is with cart, but at that price it
    should come with a driver.
