1869.0. "Wonderful World of Golf" by USPMLO::DESROCHERS (Mine's made outta unobtainium!) Thu Mar 31 1994 11:35

	From this month's Golf Digest;

Shell's Wonderful World of Golf, the classic TV series that ran
for nine years, starting in the 60's, is making a limited comeback
	in April.

Jack Nicklaus Productions and ABC are staging at least three matches,
to be strategically slotted around other golf telecasts this year.
The debut will be the Saturday of the Masters, (April 9, 1:30-3:00)
with Ray Floyd vs Fred Couples on the Teeth of the Dog Course at
Casa de Campo, in the Dominican Republic.

The second match will feature Nicklaus and Palmer at Pinehurst No 2
(April 30, 1-2:30) and the third - and best - matchup will have Greg
Norman and Nick Faldo at Sunningdale, near London, airing after the
third round of the British Open (July 16, 2-3:30).

The format, as in the original, will be head-to-head stroke play,
	with a $150,000 purse - $100,000 to the winner.

The series may be extended in late 1994 thru 1995.

1 on 1 stroke play.....runs the serious risk of becoming no match
at all if one player's hot OR one is not. How about $50,000 Nassau
instead and let them play for their own money. Automatic presses at
2 down and throw in a bunch of other garbage, too. Now there's a 1 on
    1 match!!

Forgive the slight digression, however, just when I was about to give
up on Golf Digest they come out with one of their best issues ever.

Must be close to renewal time or something.
