1867.0. "Courses near REO" by FREE::GOGUEN (Is it spring yet?) Wed Mar 30 1994 17:29

I'll be heading off to Reading, England on a two-week business trip the
latter half of April. Could any golfers from that area tell me whether
it's worth lugging my clubs across the pond for a round on the weekend
    in between?

If you have a chance go to Scotland during the weekend and play any
of the famous link courses like St. Andrews or Turnbury or Royal
Troon, etc, it's worth every penny! (pence?)

But if not, the time I was to Reading I played at a club right in the
skirts of the city. If I remember correctly, it's called Calcot
Park. Very decent, but you definitely need waterproof shoes,
particularly if you play early in the morning. Your hotel should be
able to help you find the club.

In many clubs in Europe they will ask if you belong to a club to
correspond, so try to get a letter from your course (I don't think it
has to be a private club) introducing you. Also if you have a USGA
    handicap bring your card.

As for bringing your clubs, I had to, since I'm left-handed, so I
can't tell you of any rental experiences.

    Hope this helps
