1797.0. "Broken Driver" by CACHE::BEAUREGARD (Roger Beauregard) Mon Oct 25 1993 12:30

This weekend I was playing a round and for the SECOND TIME, managed to
break my driver. The first time, I noticed on a first tee that the
wood where the shaft enters the club head was badly cracked. At the
time I assumed that I had broken the club when putting the bag into the
truck and perhaps caught the driver (longest club) on the truck edge.
Having replaced the head I was now very "aware" when putting my clubs
in the car. Well, yesterday I'm on the first tee again and notice a
small crack in the same area. I couldn't tell if it was a crack or just
a scratch in the finish. On the 6th hole, I smacked my drive pretty
good, sending the ball 250ish, and the club head about 75 yds! Is it
common for clubs to break like this? I can't ever remember driving the
club into the ground on a tee shot so the only contact this club sees
is with golf balls. Also, it looks like I'm in the market for a new
driver. I really prefer a "wood" driver over a metal driver. Any
    recomendations would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Roger

Are these solid or laminated wood heads? Although cracking and/or
breaking isn't exactly an everyday occurence with either type, I'm
told it is more common with the laminated variety...

I'm not sure what type the original head was but the paperweight :-) in
    my office is definitly laminated.
