re .1 Wrong Torey Pines :-)

Last I heard they went ch 11, but someone was trying to buy them out
    and give it new life.

Personally I don't care for the course, but the October views are
great with the mountains in full bloom.

Haven't heard a peep from them in several years.

I heard that new owners have put money into it and they have or will
materially improve it. Played last year - It was'nt bad - but then
    again I never met a course I did'nt like.

Torrey Pines recently re-opened the front-nine after doing extensive
modifications to it. Friends of mine have played it and said that,
in general, the changes are all improvements (e.g. the first hole
has been lengthened and a new green built for it.)

Bonus: they have Catamount ale on tap!

    Give it a try,

directions or a phone number to call for directions.

Thanks

We played golf yesterday with a guy who played TP last weekend.
His advice - don't bother, unless you're into rocks and "hardpan".

    played tory pines on saturday.
14 under won in a four man scramble format.
course isn't very long (5437 from the whites)
but it is generally tight. the greens do not
have too many flat spots on them. every putt
broke at least once and maybe more. the greens
were small. they even had a 410 par 5. we
discovered why when we realized the entire
fairway was crowned. nearly impossible to
    stay in the fairway.
i hear the greens fees are under $20. it was
a pretty course. lots of elevated greens and/or
    tees.

    hack nicklaus

p.s. - we hacked to a 4 under par. the people who
won at 14 under complained that they couldn't make
any putts. i guess when you have three and four
footers for birdie you don't have to putt well.
1749.9TP Special: $14.00 Cart/Green Fee til 8/31AIMHI::BEAUCHESNEMon Aug 16 1993 16:165

Now through August 31st, they are running a cart/green fee special
for $14.00 for 18 holes. I beleive it's any time on weekdays, and
after 3:00 PM on weekends. Ask the club for details if you call for
    tee times.

Id' have to look at my map for specific directions
but it's southern NH about 55 minutes from Leominster
and it's at the base of 'Crotchet Mountain'

the course has went thru changes, it's was well groomed,
nice clubhouse/rest/pub nice views , kinda short course

these are my opinions from last year.... Ihaven't been yet
this year but I plan to go up!

I looked at a map last night. Francestown is on Rt. 136 next to
New Boston and Crotched Mtn.

We played there yesterday and prices have gone up a bit from the last posting.
A foursome with 2 carts was $41 apiece. I enjoyed playing there but it's true
that every fairway seems to be "crowned" or steeply angled towards woods that
you can't even walk through much less find a ball in. Very small greens with
lots of undulations. I had to laugh when my partner described one hole as "the
nicest par-4 you'll ever get a 10 on". He was very nearly right. Lots of
little suprises.
The views are beautiful and I would play there again but next time I'll leave
the woods in the bag in the interest of hanging on to a few balls.

    re: -1

    > foursome with 2 carts was $41 apiece

    huh??? That's $25.00 per person/18 holes + $16.00 per person/18 holes
    	   for the cart.............

the $25.00 per person/18 holes I could live with but when they
start screwing people like that on the cart fees it's take your
    golf elsewhere time....

especially when there are places offering two with a cart 18 holes
    for 50-64 dollars(that's 25-32 apiece NOT $41.00 apiece)
