1670.0. "Marlboro madness !!!" by RAYBOK::COOPER (One-ton Tomato !) Thu Apr 08 1993 17:53

Mad Hacker arranges boondoggle to Marlboro !!! I will be in Marlboro
for a 1/2 day seminar on the 9th of June. It begins at 12:30 so I have
time for a round beforehand if I get out early. How far is the "Fox"
from there Jack ? What courses are near Marlboro that might be worth
getting out on. I have few contacts for private clubs but am a notorious
shmoozer when need be.

The Fox is about an hour and a half away from Marlboro. The best bet
for you, I think, is Stow Acres, North where the '95 Publinx is scheduled.
I think that the fee is around $30.00. I don't think that a cart is
mandatory. I would love to join you but that week is scheduled for
vacation on Cape Cod. If I remember right, from a few years ago when
you played the Fox, you were drilling a 5 wood about 220. That would be
    the club to bring.

1670.2Could probably get on Marlboro during the week....SNAX::ERICKSONThe snow has melted, time to tee off!Thu Apr 08 1993 19:5714
You could probably get on at Marlborough country club. The Seniors
use to play the Digital tournament there before moving to Nashawtuc C.C.
As mentioned there is Stow Acres, and Juniper Hill's in Northboro is pretty
good (10 - minutes) from Marlborough. Here is what I have listed for phone
#'s

Marlboro C.C. 508-485-1660
Stow Acres 508-568-8106 --- 2 courses, north course is longer and harder
Juniper 508-393-2444 --- 2 courses, River course is longer, but Lake
course has narrower fairways. Lake course
also has extra par 3 though.

You could also scoot down rte 495 to Bellingham to New England CC.
Real nice layout, and great bargain ! The Fox is kind of far,
especially for a half day. This could be a tough year - it might not
open until the end of April...

I think Marlboro is "members only" on Weds.

1670.5Still hitting it !!RAYBOK::COOPEROne-ton Tomato !Thu Apr 08 1993 21:126
Good to hear from you Rich !! I'm still hitting that 5 wood, hit
one 225 to the green Sunday, stuck it close and made the bird !!!
I've lopped off about 10 shosts from my index since then also.
Thanks for the tip on Stow.

There are a few other real nice courses within a half-hour or so of Marlboro.
The two that come to mind are Shaker Hills, and Sterling CC. In my opinion
both are better layouts than either Stow course, and are generally better
conditioned as well. Shaker is longer that Sterling, but I think that Sterling is a
little tighter (Shaker plays around 6850 yds. from the backs while Sterling is
  around 6650).

Whatever course you pick the day should be nice. That week has been
consistantly nice over the past eighteen years. Also, I like to think that
the best course in the world is the one that I am on at the moment. I
am sorry that I can't join you.
