1615.0. "SQUARE TOE'S VS. ROUND TOE'S" by TFH::TODD () Wed Dec 30 1992 12:16

    	I seen and listened to people describe how a square toes club head
    	will give you better stability (in terms of the head not twisting)
    	in cutting the turf.

    	Anybody concur, or disagree? What are you playing currently?

    	I'm interested to hear what people have to say about their
    	experiences with blade design. Does a wedge have a more of a
    	tendency to be affected by design because of the depth of its path
    	thru the turf then say a 4 or 5 iron??

    	"Goat Hill" (err...Green Hill) in Westboro has prompted me to
    	add a wedge or two to counteract sloping greens, hilly lies, and
    	moat-style beaches.

1615.1I like them SOFBAS::SULLIVANThu Dec 31 1992 13:3814
 I have recently switched to golsmith's square toed
blade. Although I have only a 5 iron and wedge so far
as a test. I have been very happy with the blades
performance. With the high-toe I find it very easy
to line-up the club-head. Because of that, I have also
been able to "work" the ball with a new found confidence.
 I plan to have the complete set by spring. The only
problem I'm having the choice of shaft, graphite
vs metal.

 IMHO,

1615.2Visualizing does seem easier...TFH::TODDThu Dec 31 1992 14:0215
    	Regarding the Wedge...

    	So I'm hearing you say the the square lines are giving you a
    	assistance in lining up to the target. Thus, when you attempt
    	"work" the ball your visualizing better, the result is improvement.

    	Do you notice a difference in club head speed thru contact with
    	the ball, and or, notice improvement in flight characteristics
    	compared with your previous round (assumed) toed wedge.

    	The thing with the Golfsmith Wedges are that the bounce is 13 deg.
    	thats more than I want for a fairway wedge...4-10 deg. max.

1615.3Shaft was only speed difference I noticedSOFBAS::SULLIVANMon Jan 04 1993 13:3911
 I only seemed to notice a speed difference when using the graphite
shaft. As far as the bounce, I use 3 wedges so I don't seem to have
a problem with that plus the square grooves do stop nice. I hit my
stadard wedge 120-135 and my SW 80-95 so I'm not sure if bounce is a
factor for me.
 All I know is that I hit the ball cleaner and had better control over
the line and setup. Just one mans opinion. As we know , whatever works
for you is the best.
