Having looked through the golf note files I noticed that there were several references to a Digital Challenge Cup in the U.S. Has anyone looked at running a similar event in the UK. Looking at the amount of UK golfers in DEC I am sure that we could get something together for a UK event. It was just a thought but it might be worth looking into assuming that I'm not going over old ground. Steve

Having had time to think about running a challenge cup I have no problem in setting up such an event. However I would like a few ideas on format etc ... The idea of a European challenge cup is very good and worth looking at but the only problem as I see it would be venues on different countries playing each other. (any ideas here?) I would probably see every country playing a regionalised league system with the top 4-6 teams playing off at a mutually agreed venue to produce the top 2 teams for the country. The top 2 teams from every country would then need to play at a mutually agreed venue to play for the challenge cup. I would see the format for all the games played as match play with 1 point for every win and .5 for every draw. Areas that need to be looked at: Funding. Venues. Co-ordination. Handicaps. These are a few areas that need to be sorted out before any commitment is made to starting up such an event. So far I have had 2 replies to my original note which is not very good considering the number of golfers around. As a parting thought, assuming that we got this off the ground what could we do in sorting out a DEC Ryder cup match against the US.. Worth bearing in mind. Regards Steve | |||||

This sounds like a great idea. Personally, I wouldn't limit to the UK, or Europe. I would go for a world event, but then again maybe we should start small. One thought I had. Why not organise it through the Sports & Social Clubs ? From what I've seen, each office/district appears to have a Golf Section. Certainly in our district we have a very active golf society, with outings every month. We already have a society championship, and could either put forward the champion for an individual event, or a two-ball for a team event. In the old North Region, there is an annual Scotland vs NorthWest vs NorthEast vs Region competition. The S&SC would also provide sponsorship and funding for prizes. Hi, Everything seems to have gone quiet on this topic...is there anymore details or other parties interested...is it going to be to complicated to set up... I for one would be very interested in playing in a competition on a national basis and I know quite a few more who would be interested.. Dav......... |
