Other notes:

Some mentioned about Nick Price. Well, he does endorse Spalding Tour Editions
and play Spalding clubs, but I read that he recently changed his irons 3 weeks
ago prior to winning the PGA ? Is it still Spaldings, or something else ?

Also on Mark Calcavecchia, he used to play 845's. Someone in the net mentioned
that he saw Mark play Ping Eye 2's lately. Well, I think Mark has now changed
to Mizuno's as I saw his caddy carry a Mizuno bag in a recent tournament. Mark
played with the Ping Eye 2's before he played the 845's during the square-
groove controversy. I read that it was he himself that help ignite the furor
when he hit an 8-iron out of deep rough, landed on the green and backspinned
a couple of feet. Since then, Mark was labelled one of the "hi-tech kids".

Congratulations to Bill O'Donnell who correctly guess 9 out of the 10 player's
clubs. I myself scored 9 out of 10 as I did not know Olazabal switched to
Maruman. These must be really popular in the European tour.

Further on the "Name the club of the stars" trivia, I got a direct e-mail from
Drew Scott (who is currently having some problems accessing the net). Drew
mentions that:

Azinger is part owner of Hurricane, and is reported to be selling his share
in the company. THe only Hurricane clubs in Azinger's bag are the woods and
wedges. The irons are purported to be MacGregors. However, Azinger still agrees
to promote Hurricane.

Olazabal indeed is paid to use Maruman Conductors. However, Drew was at the
British Open following Ollie and noticed that he still had some Mizuno clubs
in his bag.

As for Davis Love III, Drew was told that not all the irons in Love's bag are
845's. I think they could be some wedge systems of another brand.

Thanks for the info.

1582.1five clubs to qualifyWOTVAX::MORRISONFri Aug 28 1992 07:3317
Very interesting article. The pro's only need to carry 5 clubs
to technically be sponsored by the club manufacturer. These are
normally the mid to low irons. Most pro's then have specific
drivers, 3-woods, 1-irons, and a whole host of wedges.

Rumour has it that Woosnam, actually still plays with his Dunlop
Maxfli Australian Blades, but has had them overstamped with
Maruman. Seve was fined over $100,000 by Slazenger, because in
the advert for Sutherland waterproofs, the driver he was using
was actually a Hogan.

The latest story surrounds Nick Faldo and his shoes. Nick is paid
a fortune to wear Stylo shoes. When he won the 1992 British
Open, he was wearing another make. Stylo have not agreed what to
do about it yet.

1582.2Full set or a club short!PEKING::ANTELLJFri Aug 28 1992 08:5414
Whenever i have seen the Pros they seem to carry a weird and wonderfull
array of clubs as the previous noter said many wedges, different drivers
there are not many who play with a full set.
However Russell Claydon uses all Ping irons, as quite a few of the
lower ranked pros on the Euro tour why i dont know perhaps they offer
    sponsership to the lesser lights.

Lots of pros use the Ping Sand wedge i have even seen Seve use it at
    the European Open 85.

I suppose if it works they use it.
