1442.0. "TPC in Conn" by GERBIL::DOWNING () Wed Feb 05 1992 13:41

A few years back I read a note about the TPC course in Conn. Seem to
remember reading that it was open to the public. Something about DEC
having a Corporate membership. Is this true? Has anyone played it?
    Is it worth the trip/money?

I don't think that any TPC course is public, and yes Digital has
(had?) a corporate membership in the one in Conneticut. I played it
a couple of times before they closed it for redesigning, but it had
to be with a customer, i.e., the company payed the membership to
invite insurance customers that are in the Hartford area, which I
understand is a common business practice in that industry, no for
    sole employee benefit.

I had to go through the Hartford open to justify the request and get
a tee time. I don't have anymore the contact name but I think was
the secretary of the Sales or Service DM.

    TPC

As far as I know, many of the TPC courses are open for public play.
They are also relatively inexpensive to join as an associate member and
this has value if you live near or frequent the cities where the TPC
courses are. The TPC in Phoenix and the main TPC in Sawgrass are
available to hacks like me even. I can say that I did see the
alligator at number 17 (sawgrass), parred the hole and walked quickly
    to the next tee.

Yes, TPC courses are open to the "public" and yes Rocky Hill district
did at one time have a corporate membership. ( I still have 6 balls
in the water at TPC Sawgrass on the famous 17th! I kept "line driving"
six irons over the railroad ties in the back!)

In fact DEC use to have a corporate tent(?) , but when it got to
    60K , cancelled?
Lots of golfers in the Rocky Hill district

You sell in Hartford on the course. It's a great insurance
tradition!(spent 7 months in the CT district).

    Ang,

A six iron...was the wind blowing? The day I played was calm and I was
playing from the tour tees...used an eight iron to the middle. One of
the pros playing with me used a 9 iron to the top level...two feet
    away.

      NOW you tell me !!
I THINK it was playing 150 to 160.
It was cold (FEB) for FLORIDA , (63?).
And slightly drizzly, so I moved up in club
Mark was on in one with I think a six.
It wasn't your basic "nice day in Florida"
Don't touch those balls, I still have claim to them!

    Ang,

The last I saw, the gator had laid claim to most of the area,
especially anything in the water. He was sunning himself next to a few
golf balls. A stork was walking within a few feet of this gator and
was tiptoeing, never taking his eye off of him. Must be what the
golfers used to feel like when Jack walked up. Move over, the big dog
    wants to eat.
