    I feel like the little kid from the movie.  If this behavior is a norm
    and is not corrected quickly, heck, Daly might become another Fuzzy
    Zoeller or Lanny Wadkins or disappear all together.  Shucks, even guys
    who live like Johnny Miller have to end up explaining to the press why
    their game deteriorates(remember the "worked on the ranch all winter").
    
    Let the kid alone and give him space to breath...so he can have another
    cigarette...like Ian Woosnan.  If he does nothing more than finish in
    the top 20(which he did at the TOC) he can make enough exist nicely. 
    What the press wanted was a new "white knight" to do battle with the
    flat bellied clones with no names or 3 names.  They hounded Freddy,
    they drove the Shark away, gave Bernhard the yips, sent Sevy back to
    the European tour and work the Zinger over pretty regular.  No wonder
    they drove this kid to drink. 
    
    It would be nice to have a year where we get the human interest side without
    judgement being passed.

    To much, to soon. I think John's just a country kid who can play golf.
    All of a sudden he's got more money than he has ever seen in his life
    and all the pressure that goes with it. The pain in the butt media
    are in his shorts. The poor kid can't do anything without somebody
    writing about and God help him if he should make a mistake. I hope he
    rises above it all. He needs someone to step forward. Someone he
    respects that can help him with all the new responsibilities and how to
    deal with people. Stateting on National T.V. he is going to punch
    someone in the mouth even though someone may deserve it will only make
    matters worse. It seems we are not a very forgiving people.

    
    Latest word is his fiancee has hired Marvin Michelson (sp.)!
    

    Daly's doesn't drink anything on tour except for Diet Coke; booze is
    just somebody's bad rumor.  On his fiancee, he broke up with her
    because some people called the Tour and told them that he better watch
    out, that she wasn't the person she makes out to be.  Daly looked into
    it an d found the following:
    
    	o She was really 39; not 31 as she claimed (Daly is 26)
    
    	o She was married all the time he was courting her, not divorced as
    	  she told him.
    
    	o She applied for her divorce 1 week after he won the PGA
    	  Championship.
    
    	o She's been divored twice, not once as she had told him.
    
    	o She also may have a child by another husband , once again
    	  unknown to Daly.
    
    Give him a break.  He may not be the low-down character that he is made
    out to be.
    
    SHe also says she is pregnant.  Time will tell.

    John Daly seemed to be holding up real well this weekend. Saturday
    he played in a foursome (Bob Hope Tournament) with Bob Hope, 
    President Gerald Ford and Vice President Quayle. They had the
    largest galary around, plus secret service men. Mr Daly did not
    make the cut (by one stroke I believe). They kept mentioning that
    he signed tons of autographs and even carried his own pen to 
    do so to save time.  
    
    He didn't seem to mind at all and even though he missed the cut 
    said he was honored to play with that group.
    
    Give him the benefit of the doubt, he may be ok.

     I love the guy. He's kind of like Charles Barkley - they may be the
    last "Stand-up" guys in America. Can't say I disagree with any of the
    basic values they have (Although I question the sanity of the racist
    moron that hassled Barkley). 
    
     I enjoyed the description of the woman who is now suing Daly. What a
    beauty !! Well, he's young, but John, trust me on this - you can do
    better.

    	Yesterday's paper quoted Marvin Mitchelson saying about
    	John's comments about her... "we'll just have to serve
    	him another suit.  He's obviously losing it".
    
    	

    It will be interesting to watch this unfold in the press. I can not see
    how a case can be made, but the lady went and got Michelson, supposedly
    the best, to plead her case.  Of course, had he not won the PGA, he
    would have nothing for her to go after.  
    
    It was fun watching  the foursome on TV.  Guess I was most impressed
    with our VP.  Nice swing, good length..lose the putter Danny Boy.  The
    celebs were fun to watch as well.
    
    Hope to see DAly up near the top again soon.  It makes watching on TV a
    lot more fun.

    Sources that can be trusted mentioned to a bunch of us this weekend
    that Daly drank five beers during his round at the Houston Tour stop
    late last season. This guy who is a former assistant at my club walked
    the final nine with Daly and found him sending his caddy for beers and
    disguising them in a Gatorade cup. He sucked down the five pack in just
    3 holes. Seems he was going to miss the cut and decided to blow it off. 
    
    I just hope Daly can get it together. He's exactly what the tour needs
    to gain viewer interest. I for one think it's a case of instant fame
    and the inability to cope with it. His immaturity is starting to show. 
    
    I do feel sorry for him being taken to the cleaners by this woman. I
    hope he gets good representation and beats Marvin and client to the
    draw. It would help to get in the winners circle again and maybe the
    media will lay off. The guy needs a break. Evidently Deane is also on
    his case and appears to be wise to his drinking. I don't think the Tour
    wants the press. You may see it squelched until the Masters. His first
    major.

     Maybe we should contact Geraldo and have him do some "investigative"
   reporting on Big John and get some more juicy tidbits. 

     Big deal. Daly's girl friend is leaving him and he had a few beers and
   he threatened to whack some gossippy holier-than-thou fellow pros
   upside the head because they didn't have the courage to talk to him
    face to face.  Yawn.

     Makes me happy that I can lead my nondescript life in obscurity, where
   I can screw up once in awhile, OK almost all the time, and nobody gives 
   two hoots except my boss (right Mike?) and my family.  Success is just a 
   setup for failure and humiliation in this country.  It's scary how quickly
   we create and then destroy our heroes.

     Gotta leave now, so I can get home in time to watch Hard Copy.

    Taking neither side in this (since I certainly don't know the *true*
    facts, if you'll pardon the thundering redundancy), but - it's kind of
    like a marriage, where one partner (the golf media and golf fans) wakes
    up one morning to discover their true love has bad breath: "Hey, you're
    not the perfect, ideal creature *I* fell in love with - how dare you
    fail to live up to my impossibly high expectations??" Sigh...too bad
    our heroes all turn out to be just imperfect human beings, eh?

    Well John finally won another the BC Open in Endicott N.Y. by 6
    strokes.  Apparently both driving accuracy and consistent greens play
    contributed to his easy victory marked by a 66 on the final day.
    
    I peeked at a n.y. times article that credits John's comeback to his
    settling down with his former palimony-suit opponent and young child,
    names of whom escape me.
    
    With his usual lack of reticence Daly mentioned that this victory may
    "shut the mouths [of the press]".
    
    Finally, he did it on a golfless weekend at least on the main tour -
    that is I didn't notice it on the old tube but I was doing bumper cars
    at Bolton fair with Phillip(3) sun. afternoon.  Now if they had put the
    b.c. open on radio I could have listened to that rather than pats
    second half massacre.

    
    	Oh well, here goes... good ol' John smacked his wife around at
    	a party at his house.  Seems one of the guests was hitting on
    	John and his wife didn't like it.  So John threw her against a
    	wall and smashed the place up.  She called the cops and he was
    	arrested.  
    
    	After talking with Deane Beaman, John' off the tour indefinitely
    	and has entered an alcohol treatment center.

	At this weekends Kapalua Classic John Daly picked his ball up on
the 11th hole of the second round. After speaking to Daly, Dean Beaman has
suspended John indefinitely from the PGA. John can not participate in
any PGA functions for the remainder of this year. The suspension will be
reviewed in January.
	I wonder what this does to the Skins Game? I know its not a PGA
sanctioned event. You have to wonder if they will replace him though to
avoid publicity.

    I think what Beaman did was a bunch of crap.  I'm sorry, but I have to
    side with Daly.  I think anyone has the right to take themself out of a
    competition if they choose to do so.  The fact that he only hurt his
    own pocket is a credit to Daly.  He continued to play in the pro-am. 
    When interviewed, his pro-am partners said he was a perfect gentleman
    for the entire round.  
    
    In fact, I'll bet the "am" players will talk about this round of golf
    and what happened for the rest of their lives.  
    
    I am sick and tired of baseball, football, and now golf management
    trying to lead with their head in the ground.  These are the same folks
    that brought you Pete Rose, Marge Schott, Billy Martin, Karsten, et al.
    controversies.  Enough is enough.
    
    And while we are at it, lets impeach Hilary.

In case anyone didn't see it, Daly didn't exactly "pick up". After missing
a putt, he walked up to his ball and hit it off the green. Pretty childish, IMO.
If he wanted to "take himself out of the competition", there are more 
professional ways to do it than that.

	PALM DESERT, Calif. (UPI) -- Promoters of the annual Skins Game
announced Tuesday Arnold Palmer would replace John Daly when the event
is played later this month.
	Palmer, who has won the Senior Skins Game three of the last four
years, will join Paul Azinger, Fred Couples and Payne Stewart at the
11th annual exhibition.
	The $540,000 event awards money to players who score better than
their three playing partners on individual holes. It will be held at the
Bighorn Golf Club on Nov. 27-28.
	Daly was suspended from the PGA Tour by Commissioner Deane Beman
Sunday following Daly's disqualification from last weekend's Kapalua
International tournament.
	Daly picked up on the 11th hole of Friday's second round and walked
off the course, failing to complete the hole. Daly's suspension will bar
him from PGA events for the remainder of this season and will last until
an unspecified point in 1994.

Why exactly was he suspended?

Since it is not unusual to see PGA pros WD from a tournament,
I assume it was for displaying his anger publicly.

Would he have been suspended if he claimed his back hurt, and
walked in (stranding his amateur teammates)?  Probably not.

Would he have been suspended if he putted out, waved over a
PGA official and informed him he was withdrawing?  Probably not.

Seems like the suspension is a boatload of smelly stuff, to me.

And let me get this straight, Arnie is going to play skins
against Azinger, Stewart, and Couples?  At first, I thought
this would be cruel embarassment for the Great One.  But
now I'm starting to think it will work out OK, like last
year when Ray Floyd and Jack Nicklaus made 5, and Chi-Chi made
4, on a 360 yard par 4 so that Arnie could win the Senior
Skins game.  Great box office, but no one can convince me the
other guys aren't laying down.

     Couple of things.  Daly's slot in the Skins game is a sponsors
     selection (ie. what name is going to draw the most viewers), that
     is why Arnold was selected.  Despite his troubles (or maybe 
     *because* of his troubles), Daly is the player everyone talks about
     and most everyone wants to see.  Pretty stupid on Deane Beaman's
     part to suspend a player that brings in a lot of revenue to the PGA,
     with some of the popular TV events coming up.
    
     In today's Boston Globe, Daly explained his recent behaviour to being
     frustrated with his poor play and for his struggle with being a 
     recovering alcoholic.  There is a lot of pressure on this guy because
     of what I said in the first paragraph.  He's in a fishbowl, and 
     hasn't learned to deal with it yet.  John's still a kid.  Hell, I'm
     thirtymumblesomethingorother and I just recently learned to become
     all worldly and wise.  I'd rather watch him, then watch some of the
     other robotrons on the Pga tour.

Last May, at the Kemper Open in Potomac, Md. Daly refused
to sign his scorecard after shooting a first-round 77. He
was disqualified.
 
On Aug. 22 during a clinic at the Fred Meyer Challenge near
Portland, Ore., Daly hit a drive in the opposite direction
of the fairway, directly over the heads of a suddenly ashen-
faced gallery. "I can't believe he did that," said Arnold
Palmer upon hearing of the incident. "It was ridiculous. He
could have killed someone."
 
In late September, during the second round of the Southern
Open in Pine Mt., Ga., Daly made the turn in 43 and walked
off the course without telling his partners he was quitting.
 
So when Daly picked up his ball and pocketed it last Friday
during the Kapalua International on Maui, PGA Tour commissioner
Deane Beman had seen enough. Instead of holing out after narrowly
missing a putt for par on the 11th hole, Daly knocked his ball
away from the cup, then picked it up ana actually teed off on the
12th, which DQ'ed him immediately. Beman suspended Daly for the
rest of the 1993 Tour and into '94 without saying when the suspension
will end.
 
It was the second suspension from the Tour in 11 months for the 27-
year-old Daly, a recovering alcoholic. The first came after domestic-
violence charges were brought against him last December following an
incident at his home in Castle Rock, Co. He and his wife, Bettye, then
moved to Orlando, Fla. but they separated in July and are in the process
of divorcing. He lives in Memphis now, while Bettye remains in Fla.
with their 18-month-old daughter, Shynah.
 
Beman met with Daly for a while on Sunday in Kapalua. "He needs support
he needs understanding and he needs professional help." said Beman.
"John now knows emphatically he can't quit. You can't go out there and
walk off the course."
As part of his plea bargain on the Colorado charges, Daly was required
to complete a rehab program and agreed to seek professional support.
He has stayed in contact with drug and alcohol counselor Thomas
(Hollywood) Henderson, the former Dallas Cowboy, whom he met at the
Sierra Tucson clinic. "He's been great," Henderson says. "He's very
responsible about calling. He calls me weekly from wherever he is in
world."
Though rumors have ciculated that Daly is drinking again, Henderson says
it can't be true. PGA Tour official John Morris also says there are "no
indications" that he is.
Daly has been one of the biggest draws in golf since winning the 1991
PGA Championship. He was scheduled to play in three more PGA Tour events
this year: the Shark Shootout, the Skins Game and the JCPenney Classic, all
of which he will now miss.
 
He is not suspended, however, from other world events and plans to play in
the Mexican Open this (last) week in Mexico City. Beman also can't ban
him from any of next season's four majors, since none of them fall under
Tour jurisdiction.
 
"I hate to see this," said Henderson of Dal'y most recent episode, "but
it's just one more lesson he's got to learn. We don't drink. We don't
jump off buildings. And we don't pick up the ball in the middle of
PGA tournaments."

    I don't know how many folks saw the Honda open yesterday, but I
    thought John Daly turned a rather dull afternoon into quite a bit of
    fun.  I don't know how it would be possible to hit the ball farther
    than he was yesterday.  On the par 3 (17?) which they said was
    playing 203, he hit a 7 iron over the pin.  All the "expert"
    commentators were oohing and aahing at how well he was driving (hit
    16 of 18 fairways, I think).
    
    The rest of his play was pretty damn good, too, (they say he's even
    been practicing) and with a little luck he could have won this one...
    He behaved himself, and was very pleasant during his interview after
    the tournament, too.  He said the most important things were playing
    well, and getting his 2 year "coin" (for being sober for 2 years).

    It's nice to have him back -- most pros these days have "dead-fish"
    personalities.

    OOOOH!  *gasp*  God!  hysterical laugher,  ...
    

    Boy, Things have been pretty quite here lately, no comments on rookie
    Hienen winning the Houston tourney, or Beaman retiring,  or  now that
    the  good  weather  is  here  how's  the game coming  along,  or  the
    President's  Cup (My oppinion is that it will be too  commercialized,
    so the Ryder  is  and  will  continue  to  be  the  top International
    tournament).  I guess  we  are  all too busy trying to hold on to our
    jobs!
    
    But enough of these minor  things,  lets  get  down to real important
    matters:
    
    Has anyone  seen  the new Daly haircut?!!!!!  Talk about needing some
    settling down! Next time I blow up a match I'll get a tomahawk cut!
    
    Nevertheless he smoked the last round in Houston with a 67.
    

    Not that I would ever do that, but I agree with his theory, that he
    needed some sort of a change, and I think the 67 proved that.
    
    I was hoping that they would show his Hole-in-1 on 16 (13 ??). Did anyone 
    else see it ??
    
    I think it's great for the rookie, and I was really happy for him, and
    I think we will be seeing more of him in the future.

    Well, here it is a whole day after Big John did his thing and do new
    notes posted here.  
    
    Having been a continuous fan of the big hitter, I am glad that he was
    able to quiet all of the folks that have been on his case.
    
    I especially liked the way he made Ken Venturi look MORE like an idiot.
    
    Living in Columbus Ohio, I will have a chance to see him next week at
    both a double skins game and the Miurfield tourney.

    John has done a *lot* to stir the interest in golf. He's also had
    several very good tournaments this year, winning last week.
    
    Daly is gonna win his share of tournaments. Hitting it as far
    as he does, with an *excellant* short game, if he is on, he's
    tough. Sure, if he's not on he can really get wild with his drives,
    but *everyone* has bad days.
    
    Way to go John...

    It seems John is up to his antics again.  He shot 75 (+4) at PV and
    withdrew from the tournament (he was +4 on the last two hole).  He said
    he had a bad back and was suffering from exhaustion.  Should make all
    the fans who bought tickets to see him real happy.  I was a fan of this
    guy, but have lost patience with his childish acts.

    When he promised to play, it was advertised and the tournament had the
    largest advance sale in it's history, I have a problem with it.  I'm
    sure a large number of people bought tickets expecting to see him.
    
    He was even par on the 17th tee.  He missed the green and proceeded to
    4-putt.   It sounded as if he just gave up.

    So, he was +4, What did the leader have?  There is absolutely nothing
    wrong with dropping out if you are having trouble with your game and
    don't see it coming around to make you competitive in the next two
    rounds.  
    
    Why continue and have news people and noter's say you have lost it and
    can't play.  Why not leave and work on your game in your own privacy? 
    I know that is an approach I would take and recommend.
    
    I have seen Big John and others play good.  It is much better than
    seeing them play poorly.

I went to PV on Wednesday and followed Daly for a few holes. He was playing
good and putting well. I left him when he was on the 11th tee and at -5 .
I think he ended up at -4 so things must have started to go downhill from
there.

I must admit that I was somewhat impressed with the drive he hit on #10 !
Absolutly crushed it ! But still a smooth swing. He really does have a
nice fluid motion from start to finish.

I was not impressed by his personality (or lack there of) ! He signed
autographs and posed for pictures with kids but always looked like he
would rather be somewhere else. Never smiled.

Highlight of the day !!!

Payne Stewart and Paul Azinger come walking up the 8th green. One of the
amatures leaves a putt from the upper tier about 5' short. Azinger comments
how it's impossible to leave that putt short but that it was a "good putt".
Stewart is all over him, " good putt ? the only good putt is one that
goes in ! You've been away from the tour too long Zinger " !
Stewart proceeds to miss a 20 footer pretty badly and goes 3' past the
hole. After all have putted out, Azinger drops a ball at the same point
Stewart putted from and proceeds to drain it !! Crowd went nuts !

    I am not a pro or con on Daly.  But, I would never give up and quit. 
    It is my opinion that winners share my determination.  I've seen ll
    runs scored in the last inning to win a baseball game.  I've played the
    18th hole at Rancho Park, where Arnold Palmer has a monument marker
    with the story of the 12 he took there during the Los Angeles Open. 
    Arnie did not quit - winners don't quit.  When Daly learns that lesson
    I believe he will be a much better player.
    
    And there is a responsibility to the fans, as pointed out.  Now, if
    there is a physical problem (bad back, leg, etc.) then I don't think
    you continue.  Even the practice of playing in that situation is good
    for your game.  I hope John learns.

    
    AKRON, Ohio - Controversial golfer John Daly scuffled with the father
    of a fellow player after the the World Series of Golf, risking the
    third suspension of his tempestuous career.
    
    Eyewitnesses said Daly, playing in the group behind club pro Jeffrey
    Roth and Mike Springer, hit shots into the twosome at least twice
    during the round. After a final round 83, Daly and Roth's parents, Bob
    and Dolores Roth, got into a verbal battle. Daly, witnesses said,
    insulted Mrs Roth and was tackled by her 62-year-old husband from
    behind. Both ended on the ground.
    
    PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said he "will talk to the people
