1398.0. "Yearend Wrap-up" by RAYBOK::COOPER (One-ton Tomato !) Mon Nov 18 1991 13:43

Mad Hacker shoots personal best for 9 holes !!
After doing my "Honey-does" Saturday, I made it out to the
course for a quick nine. One hour and forty-five minutes later
I was back at the car after shooting 37 !! With my handicap,
it makes for a net 28 !!. I was afraid the year was going to
slip away without shooting a new low. I shot my best ever 18
way back in February and there has been some ugly golf in
between. Started the year with a 22 index and have whittled it
down to 18.3 so that is the third consecutive year with at least
    a four stroke drop !!
Guess it is time to hang my clubs up for the winter !!

    Mad Hacker

ps. What am I saying ? I don't have to hang my clubs up !
It will be in the 70's again by Saturday !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You had me worried Hackman. Hang your clubs up? Got to be some great
golf up your way. Sweater golf with the fog rolling in, dew to wash
your club heads and soft greens to stick it close.

Looks like your handicap is in serious need of adjustment! I also
shot my best scores when the course was open and play was fast. 2
hours 10 minutes for 18 holes - shot 80. Don't ever hang them up.

P.S. Shot 83 today after not playing for a month. What a great day!

    Jay-
Good to hear from you ! What with all the "right-sizing" going
on I never know who else is not around anymore !! The only problem
with adjusting my handicap is my inconsistency !. For the last
couple of months I have been shooting in the mid 90's and posting
adjusted mid 80's scores. Seems like I would shoot alot of pars
but also have some trible bogies and " others". The short game has
been the problem. My putting is ok but I haven't been able to get the
ball on the green so I could putt it. Guess if my approach shots were
more accurate I wouldn't have to worry about chipping and pitching.
Unfortunatley, I have only been hitting about 5 GIR"s. Take it easy
buddy. Maybe I can get some training your way next spring !!

Why are people talking about hanging up there clubs. Down here in
Georgia, I am just getting ready to pick mine up. Hunting season has
not permitted me to play golf. My handicap is my swing.

Wishing all a happy turkey day, and when you're thinking of what your
thankful fore, remember those days on the course with your close
friends, sharing great shots with each other, that killer bunker shot,
stretching it over the water in a gutsy move, that long breaking putt
    that went, "DINK!"
Don't eat to much, it will hurt your swing.

1398.8Merry(Golfing)Christmas to one and all.KIRKTN::GPHILPFri Nov 29 1991 19:5333
    Hi Folks,

I am one of the new breed,(ie:I have only recently registered
in this conference)and I have to say that I have found it very
informative,a lot of great tips for we hackers.(of which I am one at
    times)

From reading some of the previous notes in this topic,I would just like
to say that I have NO intentions of hanging up my clubs.(although I
must confess that I detest playing in heavy rain......so much for the
addage...."It never rains on the Golf Course".!!!?..I can assure you it
does with infuriating regularity here in Scotland)

The reason for this is that over the last 3 months or so my golf has
improved tremendously.(this of course was after a spell of almost
depressing hacking)This was achieved by changing.............

    1)My swing.
    2)My grip.
    3)My stance.
    4)My clubs.(Ping Eye 2 copies now)

I have now reduced my handicap from a 25,to a much more presentable
18,and I have to say that I love the game with even more of a burning
passion than I did previously.(The other bonus is that I can now take
on my close friend and golfing partner.....and beat him....!!)

There is no greater feeling than firing straight at the pin and
stopping the ball dead for a birdie opportunity.?

Gordon.(who will be out on the course getting frostbite.?????!!)

    Sigh!!

Here it is 12/1/91 and in Minneapolis we have had 56 inches of SNOW so
far this FALL. Winter comes in about 3 weeks. Then it will really get
cold and nasty. Granted this fall has produced record cold and snow.
It's supposed to be -15 by Wend. after another several inches of snow
    on Mon. and Tues.

I WANNA MOVE TO HAWAII. NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see a problem. I've never hunted but I know enough to offer some
    contructive advice:

You say your handicap is swinging - "Never swing while hunting."

I've only played 4 rounds of 9 Holers this year due to financial
and family constraints. Best round was a 43 in July at Olde' Newbury CC
(Newbury, MA) which is a challenging layout. I'm hoping that I'll be
able to take my oldest (College junior) son on a golf vacation to the
Myrtle Beach "grand strand" (i.e. the Plantation) in March '92.

Ended the season (mercifully) on a less than triumphant note (just
happy to have it over). Am now taking lessons to see if I can overcome
30 years of bad habits. Look forward to a week in Florida next month,
    to test out the "learnings."

Now that my hunting season is officially over, I can go 3 times a week
to the range and start refining and correcting my swing. Spring is
just around the corner babe, and with it being December 12 with a high
of 70 today, the time is now! Merry christmas everybody, hope you get
    all those golf goodies.
