1334.0. "HERITAGE GC INFO?" by AKOCOA::EINERMANN () Tue Jul 30 1991 19:27

    I'm looking for some info on Heritage Country Club in Charlton, MA.

    I recently saw an ad in the Worcester Telegram for "specials" ie:

    Monday - Friday
    Cart-Lunch-Beverage
    $18 (for 18 holes)
    7-10AM

    Don't know if this is a good deal or not having never played there.

    Comments please!

    Thanks

    I recently played at The Heritage (maybe a month ago), and took them up
    on their 'special'. I'd say it was worth it, even though there are
    about 8 holes on the course with very little grass on the fairways!!
    The greens were in good shape, and the lunch and beverage were good.
    You get your choice of a soda or a draft beer, and a hamburger, (or)two hot
    dogs, (or) roast beef or tuna sandwich.

    The story I heard about the course was that the owner, a few years ago,
    was planning to either sell the course to be used for condos, or put
    the condos/houses up himself. Zoning and/or other restrictions
    prevented this from happening. After chasing this for a couple years
    (while putting no money into course maintenance) he finally gave up,
    and is now trying to bring the course back to it's original quality.

    It's not a long course (don't know the yardage)....but the pro shop was
    very accomodating. We showed up with 9 players, and they allowed us to
    go off the back nine, sparing us a 40 minute wait on the 1st tee.
    Also, whereas the cart was to be included in the package, they provided
    our ninth player with a cart of his own at no additional cost.

    Lastly, a word of caution.......the Whites (I believe) are the LADIES
    MARKERS!!!! After I came up about 10 yards short of driving the par 4
    10th, and another guy in the foursome came up 5 yards short of driving
    the par 4 11th, a grounds crew worker complimented us on our shots.
    When we said that both whites seemed to be towards the front of the
    tee, making it an easy shot, he laughed and informed us of our
    mistake!!!

    Hope this helps,

    Nelly

    P.S. I got a 47 on the back nine (after being 1 under after 4 holes)
    and a 37 on the front.

     I've played it in the past, and it's kinda fun. Pretty terrain, nice
    folks and real easy. You should see the "Scramble" numbers that get
    posted at this place. Prices are pretty good also. Good morale booster,
    and we can all use that occasionally...

1334.4"RIDERS are FRESHER"NEMAIL::GLASSWed Jul 31 1991 18:565
    Dave,
    Ride it, play the ball to winter rules and enjoy!

    I agree with all of the previous notes advice also.

1334.5Where is this course?AKOCOA::BREENBill Breen Ako2-3 244-7984Wed Aug 07 1991 19:4210
    so where is this $gem? I think I would go for the two dogs myself. By
    the way I think it is a touch of class for Green Meadow to supply horse
    radish with their hot dogs along with mustard and relish. Ketsup
    and/or onions for those barbarians who care for such.

    	Does anybody remember a little 9 holer in Milford run by a woman
    and her son. Played there a few times in '81 (when there wasn't a
    public tee time to be had on a weekend's late notice anywhere)

1334.6Not a "Shrine," But I Liked ItMRKTNG::VARLEYWed Aug 07 1991 19:515
     It's on the LH side of rte 20 in Charlton as you head West from
    Worcester. The access road goes up a steep hill, you gotta look close
    to find it.

1334.7I like it!JURAN::MCKAYThu Aug 08 1991 02:078
    I've been down to Heritage a few times lately for their special and
    I think it's the best deal around. Granted the course isn't in great
    shape but the greens are OK. The length isn't that short at 6200 for
    the blues (which is the whites normally). If you figure $10 for the
    cart, $1 for the beer, and $3 for two dogs your talking greens fees of
    $5. For low budget golfing this is the place to play.

    	Has anyone been there recently?? I'm meeting Mom and Dad there
    	this Sunday. How's the condition? Greens? Wide fairways?

    	Thanks - Tom
