1321.0. "Golf near Bedford in August??" by BTOVT::GAGNOND () Fri Jul 19 1991 16:59

    I'll be in Bedford, Ma. for a weeks training in mid August. I'd like to
    play evenings if there are local public courses. Could anyone help
    with course names/location and relative distance from Bedford. I will
    be mobile, so driving won't be a problem (in a car that is) , but i
    won't have a lot of travel time so an hours ride to a course is out
    of the question, a half-hour would be acceptable.

    Regards
    Dave G.

    P.S. Courses with 9 hole greens fees would be good considering the
    shortening daylight hours ......

    SHAKER HILLS in Ayer off of 110. 3 to 495 South to 110 East(4-5
    miles) sign on your left. Probably be rated in the top 50 new golf
    courses in Golf Digest Next Year.

1321.2Pine Meadows in LexingtonVERGA::F_MCGOWANTue Jul 23 1991 15:075
    If you're looking for a 9-hole track, near Bedford, try Pine Meadows in
    Lexington. It's a public course in pretty good shape, and it won't
    cost you an arm and a leg to play it.

    You can also get to Southern New HAmpshire in less than 30 minutes
    where there are numerous courses. Green Meadows is just one that is
    fun to play.

    Hey SoCal
    	How come you know so much about N.E. Golf. I thought you were a
    born ______ (So. Cal Persontype - fill in the blanks).

    	Good suggestion on Green Meadow since they allow as many holes as
    you can play after 3:30 and has four nines ($11). On your map it is
    off 3a on east side of Merrimack River in Hudson NH.

    	There is some VA course in Bedford that I've never found much less
    played as well as the unfindable Billerica CC. Trull Brook in
    Tewksbury is about 1/2 hour.

    Good Luck ,

    Mr Bill

    I have a few Deccie friends that live and work in NH. Love to visit
    and play a round or two with them when ever I have time. They get a
    giggle out watching me airmail my ball into the trees. I get even when
    they come to the west coast and have to play courses that look like
    several dump trucks just dropped off extra sand on their way back from
    the beach. Too bad Green meadows changed the nines to balance the
    course. I thought the course through the trees was as difficult a test
    of accuracy as I had played. Now they have two mediocre courses. I
    have also played Amherst, Passaconaway, Overlook, Derryfield and
    Charmingfair. All have their own appeal and charm.

1321.6It's appreciated.....BTOVT::GAGNONDWed Jul 24 1991 15:148
    Thanks much for all the help. I'm a low-budget golfer so will probably
    head towards the public courses, the New Hampshire course sounds
    interesting.

    Thanks Again,
    Dave G.
