1276.0. "course under devel in Merrimack/Amherst NH?" by SQM::EZ2USE::BABINEAU (NB) Thu Jun 13 1991 15:32

hi all,
I would like to ask you who knows info on the newly carved golf course being
developed in the merrimack/amherst line area. It is located down Amherst Rd
in Merrimack, down past Meetinghouse Rd, down on the left side of Amherst road.
Right now, its just trees cleared, a few rudimentary greens and sandtraps
have been layed, and fairways have formed. We drive by now and then and
saw tractors working on a saturday.

Will this course be private or public? When is completion date?

And, if you have to rename this note to reflect the course name, please do!
thanks! -Nancy

The course name as I understand will be Souhegan Woods, named after the
Souhegan river that runs through the course. The property is owned by
Tamposi Co. and the course will be managed by the Freel (sp?) family,
these are the folks the currently own Green Meadow in Hudson and
Overlook in Nashua. The Tamposi Co. has plans to do a housing/condo
thing around the course, I don't know when that is starting. Last
October I asked the folks at Green Meadow about the course and they
said it would be a public course and would be open for nine in
August of '91. But after driving by there this past Saturday it looks
like there is little chance of it opening this year. Some of the
people at Amhurst C.C. were saying that there may be some money
problems. But I think that is speculation on there part, I don't
think they like the new compatition. I plan to live at the new
course for it about 6 miles from my house. They only thing that
I can see that may be dissapointing is the bunkers. The bunkers
look a little shallow. I like the SILVA (sp) design, deep pot bunkers
like at Passaconaway. But my friends call me crazy. If you want
more current information give the folks at Green Meadow a call.
