1154.0. "Play Willowbend on Cape Cod" by NETDOC::TUFTS () Sun Feb 10 1991 23:50

    A great new course on Cape Cod is Willowbend in Cotuit. It is private
    in the summer, but open to the public right now. It has been described
    in the Boston Globe as one of the most exciting new golf layouts in
    Massachusetts in a long time.

    Cost in the summer is $60, but you can play it now for $20 if you walk
    it and carry a bag. Its great fun hitting over working cranberry bogs,
    lots of grass bunkers (some really deep ones), and plenty of ponds and
    traps. It really is a challenging par 71, great shape, and a lot of
    fun.

    If interested, you will need a tee time for weekends and can get one by
    calling (508) 477-8888 .

    Directions: Go over the Sagamore Bridge onto Route 6, take Exit 2 onto
                Route 130 South to Route 28 (about 9 miles). Take a right
                on 28, go about a mile. Take a left on Orchard to the end,
                and left onto Quinnaquessant. Willowbend is 1/4 mile on the
                left.

    If anyone plays it, it would be nice to hear what you thought of it
    since it is quite a bit different than a lot of the courses in the
    Boston area.

1154.1Anyone care to try it out this weekend?MR4DEC::TDAVISFri Mar 01 1991 16:265
Anyone interested in braving a few showers to play there tomorrow? I'm
looking for a game and I figure the cape will be less soggy than the
courses around Boston--if they're open at all.

So, if you're hankerin' to break the ice, so to speak, log in here.
1154.2I'm going there Friday!SOFBAS::SULLIVANWed Mar 20 1991 18:468

    Anyone got a course description or yardages?

    There were some nice descriptions of Crumpin' Fox and Chicopee in
    these notes, can anyone do one for willow/

1154.6Had a great day at willowbendESCROW::ROSCOEWed Mar 27 1991 22:1349
    I just finished playing Willowbend today with Bob Mook. The weather
    was not all that great, temp in the 40's, 20 knot wind, slight drizzle
    on the back nine but we had a GREAT time!

    We played from the blues, they are six hundred yards longer than the
    whites and boy what a diff that makes. The course has a great layout
    and we both think that the back nine from the blues is one of the
    hardest nines we have ever played.

    Only one green was in rough shape, overall they putted fairly true.
    In fact I managed to drain two forty footers on the back. That took
    the sting out of a few double bogeys.

    If you don't like to walk get a cart because you need to be part billy
    goat on the back nine if you walk, we did. Between the water, traps,
    bogs and other obstacles the course presents a very good test of golf.

    In fact for $20 playing on a course of this quality is a bargin.
    On April 1st the price will be $30, still a bargin.

    None of that info was on the scorecard, it contained the bare minimum.
    I guess that is what happens when you go bankrupt!

     anybody know what the rate is now?

1154.10it was $30 on 4-8BUSY::PEASLEETue May 07 1991 16:105
    I played there on 4-8 and the fee was $30 plus a cart. I believe the
    $10 increase had occurred on 4-1. I don't remember if the cart was
    required but I used one and was glad of it.
