1104.0. "Florida GOLFING and Housing" by MFGMEM::LONGO () Mon Oct 29 1990 17:34

Friends of the family are in the process of spending the winter
    (2-4 months) in Florida.

The location to be selected is a function of

                  1. GOLFING cost
                  2. Housing cost
                  3. Quality of golf courses
                  4. Cost of living

    and in the order listed.

Can you supply names and info on the any of the items above?

If you are interested in the west coast of Florida, I would look into
2 courses, both are between Tampa and Sarasota, both just off I-75.

    1. Summerfield (Not sure of actual city it's listed in, but a greater
Tampa directory would list it.) This is a very nice links type
course in excellent condition. This was supposed to be a developed
area that never really took off, so I would suspect that housing
should be reasonable, since they aren't selling as expected. This
area is located close (driving time-wise) to alot of other courses,
but would make a great home course on it's own.

    2. Imperial Lakes. Located south of Summerfield, can't remember the
town but should be listed under Bradenton. Wonderful bermuda grass
course that's actually nicer in the summer. It's rye grass in the
winter and the greens aren't quite as smooth, but still very nice.
This course has a mobile home development on it's property, but you
have to see it to appreciate it. It's NOT your typical mobile
community. They are double-wide, in-ground, nicely landscaped and
not all lined up in a row. Imperial Lakes is not very far from the
beautiful beaches of Bradenton and Sarasota, and relatively close to
       lots of other courses.

Golfing cost: Not cheap in the winter in Florida. Typical green fee is
$35 (includes cart). However, there are always coupons
in the newspapers offering 2 for 1's. You can also get
discount books to various courses from organizations like
the American Cancer Society. And of course, you may be
able to get residential discounts or some places have
3 month fees for unlimited play.

Another community to consider is 'The Meadows' in Sarasota. They have
3 very different 18 hole courses, tennis courts, restaurants, bars etc
etc. I believe they have condo's/townhomes there also. This is a very
    beautiful, self contained resort/community.
