1032.0. "Request Golf courses near Augusta, Maine" by ASABET::SOUDERS () Wed Jul 25 1990 14:22

I am planning on taking a vacation in the Augusta, Maine area beginning
on August 4. Could someone recommend golf courses that are located in
or around Augusta? I plan on playing 3 or 4 times that week.

    Thanks
    Jack

    Jack,

First a few things, what are your limitations on miles willing to
travel? Are you interested in playing posh(sp)/expensive? Hate busy
or dull courses etc? There is a great course in Manchester called the
Augusta CC. Our league plays at Natanis (18) and GreenMeadow (9) with
Greenmeadow's being the tuffer course. ie more hazards. Another very
demanding and long course is Springbrook in Leeds, about 20 miles
    beyond Manchester. Also Waterville CC.

    Kevi,

I would like to play courses that are not dull and within 45 minutes of
Augusta. Hopefully, the round of golf shouldn't take more than four
and one half hours to play. I prefer 18 hole courses. Are Augusta CC
and Waterville CC public courses or private. If private, can I get on
    the courses?

    Thanks,
    Jack
1032.3Samoset it is then.DNEAST::FREEMAN_KEVIThe Squeeky Wheel = NeglectFri Jul 27 1990 16:1215
    Jack,

Augusta CC is private and doesn't let the public play unless you can
track down a member. However Waterville will let the public play for
a higher rate $25ish me thinks. Also the Samoset is 40 +/- miles from
Augusta. This course I highly recommend as it's called the Pebble
Beach of the East Coast. Do a DIR/TITL=SAMO It's in Rockland and
the shopping in nearby Camden in good and seafood... Take rt. 17 East.
Bring your wallet though. Green's are lightning fast. Rockland Golf
Club is very good also, can't miss it as you must travel by it to get
to the Samoset. Springbrook in Leeds (rt. 202, road to Lewiston
from Augusta) is good to the west. Bangor Muni.(I95) 70 miles to the
North. Too many to list in the South. When will you be in the area?

    Kevin,
