No. The only time you need to be a member is if the course is
private. There are many public courses around so you will
not have a problem here.

Most courses let you reserve tee times. It's a good idea to do
this instead of taking pot luck. Courses usually accept tee times
a week in advance.

I agree with the previous reply, with one exception. Most
of the courses in Mass that even allow reserved T times, will only
accept them 2-3 days in advance (not a week). This can be seen by
looking at the list of Mass Golf courses that are open to the public
which was published in today's Boston Globe.
