871.0. "Tourney anyone??? Send mail or Reply!" by ASABET::J_REID () Fri Feb 23 1990 14:40

Anyone interested in 2 man scrambles at Gardner Municiple Golf Course?
Anyone can join, as long as you can justify your handicap. There will
be gross and a net prizes. It is a nice 18 hole course and is
centrally located, 45 min from Maynard and about and hour from Salem
If anyone is interested, DEC or non DEC people may play. We will
accept DEC golf league handicaps and anyother form of handicap as long
as it is documented by at least 3 score cards. I will need to know
ASAP so I may let the Pro know what, if any, We are talking about for
head count. If it the majority would like to have 4 man teams, then it
is fine. What do you all think?

You bet, I will be there. I haven't played Gardner in about 8 years.
Keep us posted as things evolve (date, cost, format, etc.)...

I just spoke with the Pro at Gardner...If we can get 25 teams from
either in DEC and/or Outside it would only cost $20 dollars for the
tourney and the prizes. That is only fifty people...I think there are
that many golfers in here alone. We could have a dinner, I am
contacting the owner off the Resturant this after noon and will have a
figure for that...We could order off the menu, that would be
inexpensive also...Carts are available, if you want one you will be
able to get one. The only Catch is we will have to play on a weekday!
The weekends are all full so a Friday will probably be best! I need to
have some names of people so I know if I can count on the turnout.
There have been other tourney's in here that have not gone well, as far
as turnout goes, so only reply if you are truley interested in having a
    fun day of golf!

There will be no net prizes as this will be a scramble...sorry...

I would guess it will be on the 4th or the 11th of May... If you are
interested...could you please sen me mail of you and your partner's
name and handicap's. If you would rather do a foursome, let me know
and we will work it all out.....It will be what ever the majority wants
as to whether it is a 4-man or 2-man scramble!

Here is some updated inforamtion on the tourney.

We will be playing foursomes, it will be limited to the first 12 that
get me names and handicaps of all players in the foursome. I will be
getting the definite date on the 12th of March. I am sure we are having
there, but I am not sure whether the date will be the 11th or the 4th!
I am hoping for the 4th!

If you do not have a foursome, I will put you on a list and we will make
foursomes as we get more people!

      Rules...

            1. The combined handicap of the foursome must be 50 or more.
            2. There can not be more that 2 people per team under 10.

We are going to go on the honor system for handicaps, so Please be honest
on handicaps, otherwise you will not just be hurting yourself, it will
hurt others to. So send me mail ASAP with names of ALL players and
      handicaps of ALL players...

The price will no less that $20, but no more that $30! That depends on
whether we get a meal or not.

      Any questions...just ask!

O.K. folks, this is the scoop! We are on for the Fourth of May!
We will start teeing off at 10:00, it will be run as follows:

          1. Once your whole foursome is there, you will check in and pay
$20 a piece at the pro shop. You must have all of the people
in your foursome there in order to place a ball in the pipe.
The order of the balls in the pipe will determine when you tee
off. Due to the fact that the Commission denied sanctioniong
the Tournament, we will have to use the pipe, we can not give
tee times. I spoke with the Pro and he said we can handle it
             this way.

          2. We will be paying 3 places, one closest to the pin and one
longest drive. All prizes will be awarded afterwards in the
resturant. There will be no meal provided, but you are
welcome to order off the menu!

          3. WE WILL PLAY RAIN OR SHINE!

If there are any more people who would like to put foresomes in, or
would liked to be paired up with some other people, there are still
openings...If anyone has any questions, just let me know via mail
or through here....I will fix my spelling in those names (sorry)
and will get a course description for you all.

    Okay.

Well, I liked the course. It's fairly short with plenty of birdie
opportunities. The back side seems like a tougher test than the front.
I liked the greens, they are workable/true. If you hit a good putt
from 20 feet chances are you will make it. I like the stretch of holes
11 thru 13. 11 seems reachable in 2 but fairly tight. I kept flying the
greens on the back, making bad club selections.

I think it will take a score around 7 under or better to win this
    depending on conditions.

-Steve.

So, what is it goiong to take to win this tourney? Is it really
going to take as great a score as Jim suggests (around 12 under)?
Or will it not be quite that low do to conditions and the fact
that a lot of the players have either never played there or only
    	played there a few times...?

As usual I am going to go out on the limb and put the pressure on

     This is easy,

Prefered lies everywhere, because of hitting orders everyone will mark
drop and hit. Same in the sand... I'm sure if your plugged you will
elect not to hit first, remove imbedded ball and mark accordingly...

We will have alot of fun. The idea is not to improve your shot just
give yourself a fair lie hit the ball fairly straight and enjoy!

     Remember on the puts....

1 Put at a time and everyone must put. If your first to put for a bird
and you get it close, you must mark, if you tap it in it's a 4!!

It is that time of year again to talk about having another scramble at
Gardner Golf Course. I am interested in know if anyone wants to play
and what kind of format everyone would like to use. 2 man or woman or
foursome. This year we will be holding it on either Friday May 31st or
Friday June 7th. The price will be appx. $25 dollars per person, that
will cover greens fees and prizes. The more people we have the more
money that can be won. Like last year, the restaurant will be open for
lunch after, if we get enough people, we might be able to get a buffet.

Some more info...You can make your own 4-somes, If you can't get 4, let
me know and I will match you up with other interested people. This is
not just for DEC empoyee's only, you can bring anyone from anywhere.
If I can get a few groups of women, I will have 2 seperate divisions.
This is a Handicap based event, the handicaps must go over a combined
    50. I am once again going on the Honor system and would expect no one
to try and cheat...realistic handicaps please! I am leaning toward the
7th of June at this point. I will not close signup's until May 24th,
but I would like to get everything squared away before that. One more
thing...Only respond if you are truly interested, I don't want people
to drop out, it is not fair to the rest of the field! I have had a

    Hi all,

It is that time of year again...I would like to invite you all to
join me for the 3rd Annual GMGC Scramble. This years event will be
held Friday June 19th with tee times starting at 10:00. The price
of this years event will be a $10 entry fee per person and you will
be responsible for your own greens fees. The greens fees are $20 for
non-resident and $13 for resident. Carts will be allowed and cost $20
for 18 holes. I am working on a sandwich and salad buffet after if
there is enough interest. That may boost the entry fee up 2 or 3
dollars. There will be a 1st, 2nd, 3rd place prize along with a
longest drive and closest to the pin on each 9. This is not restricted
to DEC employees, the only thing we ask is that the teams combined
handicap is over 50. We will go on the honor system there. The
deadline will be June 5th for signups. As of now, I am not going to
limit the number of teams, but if you are interested, drop me a note
so I can get an estimate for the pro and the resturant. BTW, if you
can't get a foursome, send me mail also, I will be pairing up singles
    to make foursomes...

If anyone has any questions, send mail to SNKERZ::J_REID.
