841.0. "winter what winter" by BTOVT::HOGANP () Fri Jan 05 1990 16:35

    Well with the break in the weather I got my winter fix these last
    three days. The weather has been in the high 30's and low 40's
    in Burlington and I for one have been hitting balls for three days
    straight. There is a perfect place at the clud, not in a fairway of
    course it is a practice area. Has anyone else been out? I sure hope so
    cause my wife thinks I have totally lost it and I told her that there
    were probably plenty of people taking advantage of the weather...right?

    I have been working on a slow take away and if the way I hit the ball
    the last three days is any indication.....Look out.......Look out to
    the right and look out to the left.

841.4what winter!GRANPA::RFAGLEYFri Feb 09 1990 16:2918
    Wow... what a day! It was 60 degrees in Berkley Springs WV. yesterday.
    I rounded up two of my golf partners and we made the 110 mile drive to
    Cacapon Golf. Cacapon is a Robert Trent Jones layout, par 72. Armed
    with my newest creation (GSI Gold shaft 9.5 degree driver) and a fresh
    dose of sybervision Mike Dunaway on *POWERDRIVING*. We hit the first
    tee in bright sunshine. I shot the front in 44 butchering every chip,
    and hammering putts past the hole. The back produced a bird and a
    score of 40 again with a lousy short game.

    The driver or Dr. Mike get responsibility for an excellent tee game,
    I'm not sure which! And the 2-iron was pure all day (who needs fairway
    woods...).

    My partners scored 93 and 107(haw,haw,haw) and dinner was free!

    NOW THAT'S WINTERLF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

841.5There must be a rule??WALTA::LENEHANFri Feb 09 1990 16:5318

    Now Rick you know the rules !!!

    	You are not allowed to express so much enjoyment over a round of
    golf.... while others are suffering it out waiting for the bell to
    start the season. ;)

    	Now cut it out!

    	tick, tick ,tick ... can't it go faster?

    	Walt

    By the way, how do you like using the 2 iron? Do you feel it is more
    controllable than using a fairway wood. I just sent for a 1 iron and 2
    iron, but have never used either before. I plan on dropping the 5 wood
    and 60 degree wedge...
841.6a real scream...GRANPA::RFAGLEYFri Feb 09 1990 23:4222
    Walt,

    I worked my butt off to get comfortable with the 2-iron. I don't use a
    1-iron because I'm scared of it after the effort it took to relax with
    the 2. I spent an entire season slapping my fingers away from my 5 and
    3 woods and getting the 2-iron out instead. It's a much nicer club in
    the wind, and I can use my "easier to repeat" iron swing plane because
    of the shorter shaft length. I began using it when, in ProAm's I saw
    the Pro's go to it. Most of the Pro's I've played with carry a driver
    and a 4-wood, and use as a 14th club a lob wedge (60-degree).  The 2-iron
    is about a 220 yard club for me, and I keep it straighter these days than
    I did my woods. The biggest failing is an inability to bust it out of
    deep rough (that's what the 4-wood is for). Nothing feels quite like a
    well hit 2-iron shot off the fairway. It's a real golf shot when you hit
    it well. I think the rush is better than sex. My partners stand around
    shaking their heads oooing and aaahing when I pure it. It's also useful
    for "safe" tee shots when the driver leaves me, or the course gets narrow.

    Sorry for the salt in the wounds... just had to tell someone...
