    	For those without Golf Digest, the top 3 in NH are public. The
    last 2 are private. This is included in the listing in GD.

	Thanks Keith, I did not denote the courses that are public when
	I first entered this note so here it is again and the * denotes
	public, resort, or semiprivate course.

765.5Why did they forget Sky Medow?NSG018::STOPERAWed Sep 20 1989 11:565
    Who ever compiled that list of best courses in NH has not played Sky
    Medow, I've play the others and Sky Medow is probally the best course
    I've played in New England.

    	At the time they compiled the list, springtime maybe, Sky Meadow
    was only nine holes. It probably will be there next listing that
    comes out in 2 years. It does meet the criteria that GD lays down
    as guidelines to be chosen.
765.7You figure it out....WORDS::NISKALAMaster of the 3 inch putt!Wed Sep 20 1989 12:175
    	What puzzles me is that CC of NH, in Sutton made the top 75
    public courses in the US when that list was compiled by GD, but
    they don't make the top 5 in their own state?? I dunno!

    Keith
765.8Eastward Ho?SHARE::HURLEYWed Sep 20 1989 13:299

    There were some conspicuous absenses in the MA list too.
    Worcester CC?

    Could someone fill me in about Eastward Ho? I've never played
    there, nor did I realize it was that good, but it made the list.
    I assume if you stay at the hotel you can play the course?

    Dave Hurley
765.9Can't play the private ones.PNO::LATHAMWed Sep 20 1989 13:4620
    RE .2   Arizona courses.

    I can understand these courses being listed, however, they are all
    private except the Stadium course in Scottsdale (home of the Phoenix
    open). I was fortunate enough to play the Boulders around 3-4 years
    ago and it is truly a great one. Ate me up!

    One course which I feel should be listed is The Legends in Glendale.
    It is very new, designed by Palmer and is the prettiest course I have
    played in AZ. Beautiful design and a super challenge from the gold
    tees. Also is semi-private. The bad thing is that if you don't play
    it during the summer and take advantage of the reduced fees ($23-$27)
    then it takes a loan to get on the course as it does at all the good
    ones in the winter.

    Anyone coming to the Phoenix area this winter for golf drop a line and
    I'll try to head you in the right direction.

765.10the last 5...MSEE::KELLEYCustom clubs/club repairWed Sep 20 1989 15:278

    Harold,

    According to GD the last 5 on the list for Arizona are public,
    resort or semiprivate...

            Concord C.C., Concord

    Gee, none of those courses are even in my top 3, which are:

    Sky Medow - treat yourself to play this beauty once, you'll love it!
    Lake Sunapee CC - was my #1 until I played my #1
    Keene CC - much nicer course than Bretwood, although I havn't played
                the new holes at Bretwood, the thing I don't like about
                Bretwood is (was) the front nine.
765.12Different source, different info.PNO::LATHAMThu Sep 21 1989 14:017

    My info was from the Arizona Golf Directory but I won't argue.
    They are still too expensive for me.

765.13Not in my opinion!MJOSWS::FAGLEYbeat the residentMon Sep 25 1989 14:054
    Golf Digest missed the boat here in Pa. too!!! They list a course here
    in State College Pa that is lousy compared to other area courses!!!
    I notices the listings for North Carolina missed the new Nicklaus course
    (Longbay) which may be the finest golf course I've ever seen!!!
765.14Selection Criterea?ACESMK::RESIDEWell, I mighta gone fishinThu Sep 28 1989 12:498
    It seems as though I remember that the criterea for selection
    of the "Best Golf Clubs" to include more than just the golf
    course itself (ie history, course difficulty, etc).

    Does someone have the article so that the criterea on which
    clubs are selected on can be included?
