764.0. "Comments on Grand View?" by 5WOOD::FITZPATRICK (Today my jurisdiction ends here.) Mon Sep 18 1989 21:43

    Hi Gang,

A buddy of mine is coming to visit this weekend, and since I just
moved to Leominster, I was thinking of taking him to play Grand View.
I've never played there, and was wondering if anyone might be able to
tell me what I'm in for, or if I should think of playing somewhere
else. If it makes any difference, we're planning to go Sunday morning,
    not-too-early.

    Thanks,
    -Tom

764.1Not bad but...LEVERS::LENEHANMon Sep 18 1989 22:5914
The front nine is wide open and not very interesting. The back
nine is well layed out and alot of fun. Reason is there are trees
on the back nine that tighten things up.

The price is right. But... if I was to have a choice I'd play
Westminster CC , it's about 15 minutes from Leominster. Much
more challenging and all around better conditions, layout etc.
The back nine at Westminster is VERY interesting/fun. The front
is tough, 8 par fours in a row... it tends to wear on you with
the lack of variety. But the back nine makes up for any discomfort!

    	Have fun... go to Westminster,

Also Being from Leominster, and having a limited golf budget. I
Play Grandview quite offen. What was said in the previous reply is
true. The front is wide open and (YAAAWN....) Excuse me. a little on
the boring side. The good news is that you don't need a tee time.
Just show up and put your name on the board by the first tee. The bad
news is that you can't get a tee time and you could end up waiting
an hour and a half to play. FYI the best time to play on Sundays is
before 7:00. Anytime after 7:30 expect a long wait. (atleast an hour
during the summer, maybe less now) If your not there by 7:30, wait
	untill after 9:30.

	Have Fun

764.3Problem with WestminsterLEVERS::LENEHANTue Sep 19 1989 19:119
One thing that will be a problem at Westminster... the members
will be teeing off until noon or thereabouts, on weekends.

I guess your best bet would be to get to Grandview early as .2
stated, and hope you won't have to wait too long.

    	good luck,

    	Walt

RE .-1 (Great course for the $ but don't bother renting a golf cart!)

    ???

Why are you advising against renting a golf cart for this particular
    course?

The best course in that area is probably Gardner. GREAT greens,
    but busy! Call ist.

Another nice course in the Leominster area is Wachuset golf
    course.About 15 minutes from Leominster off of rt12.It's a
hard and long course but kept up very nicely. OH it is in
Boylston, no tee times either but a long wait if you get after
    7:30am
                                      Good Luck
