758.0. "FORMERLY WANG (once again the) GROTON CC..." by ZAMMY::NANCYZ () Wed Sep 13 1989 16:48

My husband and I played Wang CC several weeks ago and weren't too
surprised to hear from the pro that the course is up for sale. Hope
the golfing DEC Grotonites (Grotonians?) will keep us apprised of
its fate. If the future owners should happen to open up the
membership, it would be nice to be on the waiting list.

We are new to the sport, but have played Wang twice this summer.
I don't have much to compare it to, but we think it is a nice
course. The only drawback is the second and third holes, which
are like climbing Mt. Everest...twice! The swimming pool is gorgeous,
but I don't know if that is open to non-Wang people. There is also
a driving range, in need of new astroturf teeing areas, volleyball
area, tennis courts and funtion rooms.

758.4Can non-employees/non-guests play?SPCTRM::GORCZYCAMon Sep 18 1989 12:3719
RE: .0,.1

Maybe I'm a bit naive, but...

When you played at the Wang C.C. were you there as a guest of a Wang employee
or is there a way for non-employees to play too???

If there as a non-guest, could you provide some specifics like:

	a) when can a non-employee/non-guest play?
	b) greens fees?
	c) anything else I should know?

I'm looking to play a quick 9 BEFORE work (@6:20 these days) and Groton would
be REAL convenient!

Thanks,
John

My experience playing Wang has only been on weekends. Summer
before last we just showed up and didn't have any trouble getting
on. This year they appeared to be a little more strict and told
us to call ahead for a Tee time. Believe the greens fees are something
    like $10 for 9 holes, $16 for 18. Carts are $8 for 9 and $16 for
18 and you don't need to have a Wang sponsor to play. Pack your
hiking boots; you'll need them on the first 3 holes.

PS None of the other facilities - pool, lockers etc - were available
    to non guests.

As of last year, I believe, Wang C.C went public. Anyonre can play
at anytime. Greens fees are $7.00 for 9 holes and you are probably
better of calling ahead for a tee time justto make sure. It sometimes
gets a lot of play early morning and evening. Overall not too bad
a course, I hope you like big hills and small greens.

I just rode by there the other day and the sign now says "Groton

    considerably higher now.

I believe the town of Groton recently purchased the country
club from Wang for $2 million. They first sold it to Wang
    back in 1982.

Wang will pass papers Friday on the Wang Country Club in Groton, a
nine-hole, 120-acre golf club that the troubled company is selling to
the town for $2 million. Wang bought the former Groton Country Club in

of you who have played here before know that there are ocassionally
