731.0. "Match Play - Match drawing criteria ?" by YIPPEE::SUTHERLAND (Simon - MIS (AI Center Europe)) Wed Aug 23 1989 09:19

Hello fellow golfers,

I am organising a Match play competition soon and would like to know the
criteria for drawing matches.

Should you

	1)	Draw highest vs lowers handicaps

	2)	Draw ( near ) equal handicaps

i.e.	Player #1	26
	Player #2	20
	Player #3	17
	Player #4	14

	1)	Player #1 Vs. Player #4 & Player #2 Vs. Player #3

	2)	Player #1 Vs. Player #2 & Player #3 Vs. Player #4

Anyone out there who has done this before or has a suggestion ?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

	Simon

Any match plays I have ever played that involved handicaps played
the best player first (i.e lowest handicap) and the worst last.
In doing so I guess it's closest to the 'near equal handicap' type
    draw you mentioned.

the usga rule book has a section on parings for match play. As I
recall it also list parings for 8/16/32/64 players. Esentially it
    is 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc....check it out for ideas...
