638.0. "Courses in Atlanta?" by AKOV11::BECKETT () Thu Jun 08 1989 14:01

We're going to Atlanta for 2 weeks ...June 18 - July 3...and hope
to find some interesting things to do, golf being one of them. Can
anyone recommend any courses in the Atlanta area?

    Thanks!

First of all Atlanta is a great place, I was just down there myself.
Try a course at STONE MOUNTAIN. It's north of the city. Golf digest
has ranked it amoung the top 75 public courses in the country.

    Have fun!

Yes, Do plan a whole day at Stone Mountain. It's a state park so they hit
you a couple of bucks to get through the gates. The course is challing!! I've
played it many times.
And at the park the mountain is more like a hill to us but, they put
on an awsome lazer light and sound show at night which is really wild.
Also, the Elks lodge in Decator (about 10 mins from the park) on thursday
nights put's on a Great !! *** fish fry. They have 3 dinners to choose from.
Southern fried catfish, beer batter shrimp and briled red snapper. I've had
all 3 and there great!! espicially at $3.95
My favorite course is by far Stouffer's Pine Isle Resort at
Lake Lanier Islands. You will want to take in Lake Lanier anyway so you
might as well play the course that has the richest purse on the LPGA tour.
Green's fees are around $45-50 ( My old company used to pick up the tab) with
a cart. You can call for tee times. Very friendly and eager to serve staff. This
is located about a 45minute drive from Norcross, Ga.

     Have fun and Enjoy!!

  P.S. and for the wife...

Gwinnett Place shopping mall can keep her happy for a day. It's on of the
biggest Malls I ever seen...
