595.0. "DIGITAL COUNTRY CLUB ???" by BOGUSS::COOPER () Fri Apr 28 1989 23:05

    I have seen several references to DIGITAL having a corporate
    membership at some country club in Connecticut. Is this true?
    If so, what does this mean to me? Can I play this course the
    next time I am in Bedford for training ? Is it all some sort
    of cruel joke ?? Can anyone out there fill me in on this ?

    I don't about a course in Connecticut but I have resently heard that
    DEC is interested in buying Holden Country Club. There may be another
    invester involved but I have not heard who it may be. Anybody else
    heard anything about this??????????

    DEC is a corporate member at the TPC of Connecticut, in Cromwell.
    This means for $50.00 (last years prices) and a call from an
    authorized DEC person you can get a tee time and play there.

    I have played that course.(not thru DEC) The front is not that
    difficult. The back is anothe story.It is tight and has water. It
    looks like a Pete Dye special with all the railroad ties.
595.5Holden Hills for SaleSTUDIO::PIELMon May 01 1989 20:5510
    RE: .1

           I heard that Holden Hills is up for sale. It seems that it is
    owned by some real estate developer who has fallen on hard times
    because of the slowness of the market.
     No other details.

595.6To Get On The TPC ConnRAIN::MOORETue May 02 1989 11:3210
    Call the Tournament Players Club of Connecticut in Cromwell ( I
    don't know the number off hand), tell them you work for DEC and
    want a tee time. They have a list of the folks you can contact for
    tee times. Most are in the Meridan sales office.

    The Greater Hartford open is the week of July 4th, so don't plan
    any golf there that week.

    is it just that easy to play? a phone call and 50 bucks.

    how about posting names and numbers of the people in meridan.

       Yes, I would like to also know if playing is just a phone call
    away.

    The "infamous" A.J. Lane is the present owner of Holden and it is
    no doubt buyable, but will the buyer be DEC????????
595.10TPC FOR BUSINESS PURPOSESDARTS::DIAZCMG/CDG/SAMGThu May 11 1989 15:188
    After several phone calls, I got to one of the people at Digital who
    deals with TPC.

    She informed me that the membership was for business purposes, i.e.,
    to play with customers. They are concerned by the wide access of
    Notes and by being swamped with requests, so... only with customers.

    Who is this "they" that are concerned by the wide access of Notes!!
    Was this membership supposed to be some big secret or something??
    Sounds like another Sales boondoggle to get more perks from DEC.
    I'm sure a round at the TPC is a real leverage tool to use to close
    a sale !!! SO, do you let the customer win to insure a good survey??
    Oh well, next time I have a question to ask I will make sure and
    clear it with the proper authorities before opening the ball.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Well, this has nothing to do with opening a Golf franchise but I
    didn't know where else to put it!! I would like to thank everyone
    out there who responded to my questions about the corporate
    membership at the TPC in Cromwell, Ct. It must have really
    ruffled some feathers that the general DEC population found out
    about this. My note has been deleted from the conference (note 610)
    so I guess we aren't supposed to talk about it anymore. Our sales
    force is interested in trying to get something like it on the West
    Coast so I told them to call the Connecticut office for info. Since
    I am just a branch puke field engineer I guess my lot is to play
    all the muni tracks I can find. Oh well, keep on hacking!!!
