582.0. "course listing and prices?" by USADEC::OTENTI () Wed Apr 19 1989 18:15

last year someone in our group here brought in a page from
somewhere listing many of the local courses and their prices
for the '88 season...then someone else promptly took it home!

i was wondering if someone out there happens to have such a list
and could either put it in the notes here or send it to me..
i find it harder and harder to find a course to play at after work
when the leagues get started and this list helped us out while we
had it last year...it listed the course name, phone #, weekday and
weekend rates, course yardage and a few other things..

by local i mean the framingham out to worcester area and surrounding
    towns..

can anybody help out with this list..i'm sure many would like to
    have one..

    thanks
    al

The list was in this past Sunday's Boston Herald. Unfortunately, I've
already misplaced it (by coincidence, I was looking for it last night).
They publish it every year at this time.

The list was published in yesterday's Sunday Telegram in Worcester.
If any of your local stores don't have any copies left over, you
can call the paper and they will send you a copy.

	* These courses have scheduled Tee times or are semi private. It would
be wise to call ahead to all of the courses since each course may have
restricted access, leagues etc. These course I Just know are semi
restricted from personal experience. Maplewood's tee times don't start

Well... it's interesting.. or I should say depressing to read what the
prices of green fees *used* to be, only a few years ago. Golf is going
out of site over the past few years. Weekend golf for 18 holes is
*minimum* $20.00 (maybe more this year). The $20.00 is for your average
to below-average public course! Of course, carts are extra.

Norton CC is going from 25.00 to 28.00 this year AND carts are
MANDATORY! I don't like carts anyway, and can't afford $40.00 to tee
off! I think the prices will actually INCREASE the number of SLOW
players, players who don't know rules, etc. This is because people will
not be playing 2-3 times a week, and playing only on weekends, with the
    scores going up.

I hear ya. It's like going to a Celts or Bruins game (although if the
new Gaahhdin goes through with the Jacobs Brothers financing it, how
much do you think seats will cost then...?). Some folks may opt to play
less frequently, pay more and play a good course - others may play more
often, but go the "goat ranch" route. Hey, golf is golf, however you
    like it is fine.

In years past, I'd just pay the $$, join The Fox and play as often
(more likely as little) as I wanted, because it fit my golf budget.
This year, with a new house, rugs, landscaping etc., I'm gonna have to
take a year off, pay the fees, and play when I can. I do have a couple
good courses targeted, which is why I'll have to save $$ on the other
    end...

Well,
At least we still have cheap munis in Northern California. We were
moaning last weekend abouit the new $12 green fee at my home course.
The other munis within 50 miles average $12-&15 and carts are not
required at any of them. Oh, look out, here comes another earthquake !!
Probably got a couple of new two-tiered greens at the course !!!!!
