570.0. "Ft. Lauderdale courses" by EMASS::MURPHY (Dan Murphy @ OFO) Thu Apr 06 1989 16:34

I'm going to be in the Ft. Lauderdale area soon. Anyone have any
    course recommendations and approximate costs.

    Thanks in advance.

Well, I haven't been there in about 14 years and I've played alot
of resort and championship courses since, but I remember playing
2 that were really great!! Also, at that time they were adding
new 18's so they may be 54 hole resorts by now.

Both were within 20 minutes or so of Lauderdale.

The first is Bonaventure and the other is Jacaranda. Again, that
was a long time ago but they sure seemed great back then. Hey,
just make sure to play the "championship" track, right?

Also, that course that was used for the Jackie Gleason is fairly
close too. Not sure if it's private.

    Down the middle...

there were a couple of good ones just off Commercial Blvd. heading
towards Tamarac GC. I think Tamarac is private but there were a
couple right on the main road. Digital is right on Commercial Blvd.
    too!!!!

Colony West C.C. is on Pine Island Rd. & McNab Rd. Tamarac. This
course is in the top 100 Golf Digest public courses list.

It is a beautiful courses & very challenging!!!!!

I just returned from a few days in lauderdale. I played the Hollywood
country club which is a public course. Carts are 12.00 and 18 holes
is 23.00, or if you tee off after 3:00pm everything is halfprice.
It is located about 10 min. south of the FT. lauderdale airport
on 95. Take the Hollywood blvd. exit of 95 south. Turn right and
it's about a mile on the left. Wear suntan lotion.

I'll be heading down to Ft. Lauderdale next week and plan to play each day.

I don't mind driving a bit and would like to play an ocean-side course if there
are any in the area that are open to the public.

I've jotted down those mentioned in the previous notes but have a couple of more
days to fill.

In lieu of specific course recommendations, does anyone have any ideas about how
one could get information on all the courses in the area...even before I leave?
I live in the Greater Boston Area and know that most areas have books with
descriptions of all golf courses in a specific area (I've got one for New
England ... a friend of mind got one for the Sarasota/Tampa area).

Thanks,
John
