437.0. "Nicklaus Back Problems" by ENGINE::WARFIELD (Gone Golfing) Wed Nov 09 1988 11:02

Jack Nicklaus, suffering from a degenerative back condition, said he will seek
further medical advice before he decides whether he can play tournament golf
again. "I can't play the way I am", said Nicklaus. "I've got to make up my
mind what I'm going to do". A Magnetic Resonance Imaging examination conducted
by Dr. Bruce Waxman at St. Mary's Hospital in West Palm Beach, Fla., Monday
confirmed a disc problem in Nicklaus' lower back.

I am sorry to hear that Jack is having back problems it is probably the worst
problem for a golfer. If this means the end to his competitive days I am glad
that I got a chance to see him in person at the The Open this year.

Maybe he can see the same doctor that Fuzzy Zoeller saw. After his back
surgery his back was better than before his problems started!

Signed anxiously waiting,
Larry
437.2Good luck JackHBO::BLAISDELLStay healthy George...Please!Wed Nov 09 1988 15:377

         Sad news indeed. With all his outside business ventures, he
         won't be home twiddling his thumbs, though. If it is career
         ending, golf has lost one of it's greatest talents and
         competitors of all time.

437.3"The Golden Bear still roars!"OURVAX::GLASSTue Dec 20 1988 14:507
    Well now,
    The Golden Bear didn't look like a man with either a bad back or
    plans to retire from golf as the Skins Game was in progress.
    He was not the big winner, but the only one not to pick up either
    day and finished with two 33's.
    It is hard to beat the Ohioians!!!!!!!
