429.0. "new addition to Amherst CC (NH)" by HARLEY::DAVE (it's tee time !!!) Wed Oct 26 1988 11:12

I passed by Amherst CC (NH) yesterday and noticed that it looked
like they were putting in some additional holes across the street
from the club house. The same side as holes 11 - 14. Does any one
know about this addition. Looked like they were putting in maybe
    nine additional holes.

429.1New Executive CourseNRPUR::NASONWed Oct 26 1988 14:469
They are in the process of building a new 9 hole Executive course (par 3s & 4s).
I spoke with a guy at the driving range there, and he said it is expected to be
completed next summer. It sounds an though it is owned by the same folks that
own the driving range.

When I find out anything else, I'll post it here.

did you here that ted bishop (current pro at amherst cc) is building
his own course in milford, nh. it will be opening in 1990.

Not only are they building a new 9 holes but they are also building
a new clubhouse (not to be confused with the one that burned down).
Yes that's right there will be 2 (two) clubhouses at Amherst. One
for the origional 18 holes and one for the additional 9. By the
way the 9 holes are pretty short. Also I heard that the additional
9 will become private in about 2 years after it opens.

Those nine holes looked fairly well bunkered. Should be fun to play.
I'll definitely make it a point to plat them before they go private.
With the influx of people into southern NH the courses are filling
up and the prices are going up. BUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't know that ACC was the owner of the new course. It is
    a Cornish/Silva design.
I heard rumor of a new 18 holer somewhere in Litchfield. Anyone
    hear of this also????

Yup, heard the same rumor. Course is supposed to be surrounded
by single family homes. If I recall correctly, they will be built
by Stabile. Might want to check with them to confirm the rumor.

Its true. Just take a ride up Rte 3A North and you can't miss the
landscaping. Definately a golf course. And it is adjacent to a
    single home development.

I called the realtor to see if the new driving range was for sale..
Apparently the driving range is not part of the deal and will open
again next spring.. The sign is for some land not being used/needed
by the owners of the range.. I called because I couldn't imagine
why anyone would sell somthing making good money.. The place was
    always busy..

God knows I spent enouph money there last year :-)

429.11new course really part of Amherst?MLTVAX::ARMSTRONGMon Jul 10 1989 16:029
Manchester Union said it opened on July 8. The greens I can see from
the road all have flags and there are benches beside the tees. I
    think they are indeed open.

Question: Is this course really an addition to Amherst CC? The
sign in front says "Ponemah Greens". I was under the impression
that this was a totally separate course from Amherst.

(Or is Ponemah Greens just the name of the driving range?)

There was an article in the Nashua Telegraph about the course, it is a
par 33, no par fives. The pro of the course was talking about it and
said it is a golf course to make you think, you can't just take out the
driver and go, from the description I would guess you may want to leave
your driver at home. Thick rough, hilly greens and lots of water, as
well as some mounds in the middle of a fairway about 200 yds out.

It opened Sat, anybody play it??

429.1412th green fixed finallyNSG018::STOPERATue Oct 31 1989 13:3714
    FYI:

Amherst CC has moved the 12th green over to the right, as anyone knows
who plays the course, the 12th is always in bad shape because it does
not get any sunlite during the winter months.

They are also going to change the tee on that hole to be a horseshoe
shaped tee around the back side of the pond. They will be cutting out
the popular trees along the existing tee. I'm very happy to see this
because I always though that the existing tees (where you have to hit
the ball 200 yards long and 100 yards high because of a strand of 60
    foot pine trees) was stupid.

    Amherst CC News Flash.

Ted Bishop has been reinstated as head pro, the pro last year has been
demoted to running the par 3 and driving range. Ted said "it's great to
be back", Ted's new course he was building in Milford NH, has fallen on
tough times, problems with the EPA and financing has left the courses
    status as very questionalbe.

Green fees are going from $20 to $22 on weekends and from $16 to $18 on
    weekdays.

Last year the course condition was the pits.

429.17improvmentsNSG018::STOPERAFri Jan 12 1990 15:349
    mike,

the only improvments they have made is the 12th green being moved, i
don't know of any other area's they are changing, the tee's on
3,6,7,12,13 and 18 need alot of work (ie, i would blow them up) but
the bottem line is that they will have that place packed no matter what
they do or don't do, and they probally know that.

429.18Yes, some tees need major improvements...WORDS::NISKALAFreezing my Filberts off!Mon Jan 15 1990 10:465
Is it confirmed that the 12th green is being moved? I heard
they planned to cut down some of the offending pines and move it
a bit more to the right so it could "catch a few more rays, dude".
But then it may not matter, I'll be playing at Litchfield if
the DEC league is split this year.....

So will I. I'm sick of that place (Amherst). It is layed out nicely but
the upkeep is the pits. They got 16 and 17 year olds who don't known the
first thing about grounds keeping doing all the work. And there dosn't
seem to be anyone watching them to see if they do a good job. What really
bothered me about the course this past year was that they know it needed
work yet they choose not to put anything into it. Tearing up a few tees is
not much work. All they had to do was rent a tiller (if they don't have
one) and do a couple tees a week. Then by the middle of the season it
would be in decent shape. Just fixing the tees would have been a vast
improvement at a very minimal cost to them. After they get everything in
shape then just fire Vern and the place will be great.

Passaconaway, the course name, is right on route 3A in Litchfield.
It is probably 3 miles from the Budweiser plant as the crow flies,
but for us that have to drive to it, it's about halfway between
    Manchester and Hudson.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to try it in the Spring, since it is
close to home (I live in Londonderry).
Is this a "regulation" course? A par 3? Is it new? I don't remember
    seeing it before.

Its a regulation course. Definetly not a par 3. I've only played
the back 9, but it is long. The way they figured out par is a little
    weird.
