397.0. "Calaway help??????" by DELNI::M_CARBONE () Mon Sep 19 1988 15:13

I was wondering if anyone out theree could explain the Calaway type
scoring system. I played in a tournament this weekend that had
2 catagories, one being an open and the other a Calaway. I had
no idea what it meant, only that everyone played their own ball
to the hole. We didn't finish in the money but I did manage to
win the open with a 75!!! First trophy, hope theres more to come!!
I'm still confused on the Calaway and would appreciate any help
    you all can give.
    	Thanks...Mike

Thanks for the pointer Rick, I now have an idea of what went on
Saturday!!! The tourney was played at Saddle Hill C.C in Hopkinton,
Ma. It was the "My One Wish" Tournament to help terminally ill
kids. It was a lot of fun and raised some good money to help these
    kids. Thanks Gene!!

Tomorrow I'm going to be playing in a customer golf event. I just
found out that I'm responsible for scoring the event. I understand
that most of the players are triple digit types, so I thought that the
Calaway system would be the most fair scoring system. The pointer
listed in this note seems to be missing (145.2), does anybody have the
table of hole deductions for the Calaway? Thanks

Suggest you get to the course early, I am sure the pro shop will have
something for you. They usually have a sheet with the break points and
the number of holes to subtract for the net score.

Turns out the owner (there is no pro shop)had a book that was marked up for
that course. It was an interesting day for all. The folks who played are still
trying to figure out how I arrived at the handicaps and with a 4 way tie for
first, they are really confused as to how Idetermined the winner.
