329.0. "Bayberry Hill G.C. - Yarmouth" by METM11::MURPHY (Dormie) Wed Jul 13 1988 21:18

    A new course located in Yarmouth, MA has opened for play as of July
    1st.

    I had a chance to play the course last weekend and believe that
    it will be one of the best on the Cape when it matures. It was designed
    by Cornish and Silva (as in The Captains Course in Brewster) and
    executed over some fairly rugged terrain bordering the Mid-Cape
    Highway (Route 6).

    The course is most always favored by some fairly strong, and lately
    refreshing, winds which add to the difficulty of the tee shots.
    There are four tee positions on the course from Red (>5000 yds.)
    to Gold (7172 yds.)

    The course features Bermuda greens and tees and resembles many of
    the Cape courses (some surprise since Cornish designed most of them).
    The course is toughly trapped (great sand - I brought back two shoes
    full) and the greens have some tremendous countours.

    They accept tee times one morning in advance starting at 7:00 AM.
    There is no clubhouse yet - they are dealing out of a trailer. The
    practice range is phenomenal with three levels of grass tee areas
    and at least 300 yards long by 150 yards wide. Greens fees are
    Cape-reasonable for the summer at $22.00 and carts are available
    (in fact the pro suggests the use of carts for all but the heartiest
    due to some hikes between tees and some of the hills).

    There are some great holes there - especially the 9th, 13th, 16th
    and 18th. The par threes are all strong holes and the par fives
    are placement holes and regulation pars.

    Give it a try and let's compare notes....

    Do you have a phone # for this place. It sounds good to me, maybe
    get a chance sometime.
329.2Phone Number and Reservation PolicyMETM11::MURPHYDormieFri Jul 15 1988 13:2812
    The phone number is 394-5597. Their policy for tee time reservation
    is one day ahead starting at 7:00 AM.

    It is getting tough to get any decent tee times anywhere on the
    Cape for golf - this one has yet to get the volume of play so take
    advantage. (I was one of the first callers into Captains yesterday
    for a Saturday time and wound up with a 12:30 tee time. The members
    have a tremendous advantage. Its a great deal for $200/year. It's
    almost worth buying a house down there to be a resident member.)

    Also - the greens, fairways and tees are not Bermuda grass but are
    all bent grass.
