312.0. "Practice Nets" by FUNBOX::RESKER () Wed Jun 29 1988 15:49

    Note 311 got me thinking on this.

    Do any of you folk have you your own practice nets?

    How much do they cost? Where do you get them?

    How do you know when you've hit a good shot? I would be
    counterproductive to continuously practice a hook/slice shot
    without realizing it.

    What do you hit off? Grass? Some sort of carpet?

    I'd have to set mine up outside because I don't have any ceilings
    high enough to swing the club.

    thanks,

312.1Good for swing mechanics only...MSEE::KELLEYon_in_regulation, GRAPHITEWed Jun 29 1988 16:2011

    	I don't have one yet, but I plan to get one. The ones that I
    	have seen are $300+. They come with a pole frame, able to stand
    	alone. It comes with a mat to hit off of... Other than by feel,
    	I don't think you can tell if you hit a hook or slice when you
    	are hitting into a net.

    	The one I am looking at getting is offered by Golfsmith, but
    	I have seen others advertised in the back of Golf Digest...

    I purchased a practice net and mat last year from one of the local
    golf shops here in Colorado Springs. The net is 6'X9' and the whole
    shooting match was about $80. I have been very happy with the usage
    of the net. (Can't say it has helped my game after the sorry round
    I shot yesterday!)

312.3Is it enclosed...?MSEE::KELLEYon_in_regulation, GRAPHITEThu Jun 30 1988 11:3310

    	Hi Richard,

    	Is the net you mentioned just one side or is it enclosed (top,sides
    	and bottom)...?

    	Thanks

312.4Mine's not...CREME::HOLDERHow bout' them VOLS!Thu Jun 30 1988 12:156
    I purchased a net last fall that was not enclosed ($40.00). If
    your looking for one that is enclosed be willing to spend
    $200.00-$400.00. The only problem with a one sided net, is the
    "mis-hits" can go flying around the room.

    RE: .3
    	Mine is only one side. With the width of the net, I stand about
    two club lengths back from the net and it works OK.

312.6Sources for the netting?FRSBEE::GARYThu Jun 30 1988 13:479
    	I was hoping to find a source for the netting itself. I plan
    on making my own frame so I can take it indoors when... well you
    know when. I'll worry about the mat at that time also.

    	How 'bout it? Anybody know where I can get just the netting?

    	...pretty please?

312.7I love my netNSG018::STOPERAHenry HawkThu Jun 30 1988 14:239
    I have a net which I use during the winters, I set it up in my garage,
    I don't know the cost because it was a gift, I also have a hitting
    mat. The net is not enclosed, I felt it really improved my game
    being able to hit all winter, I stand about 10 feet from the net
    and hit into it, I can't tell if I hook or slice but I can tell
     where the ball is starting out ie my swing path. The only problems
    are that it get's very cold in my garage and my wif thinks I'm loony
    and shanks which don't hit the net. I did get hit once by a ball
    hitting off the net onto my head, the lump was only 1/2" big.
312.8Try Golfsmith...CREME::HOLDERHow bout' them VOLS!Fri Jul 01 1988 12:167
    I just checked in the Golfsmith Accessories Catalog. They do carry
    a one-sided net (Part #651) - $37.60. The net with the frame (Part
    #650) is $57.50. Their number is 1-800-531-5025. I think that
    Golfworks also carries a couple of different nets.
