310.0. "Titanium - worth the money" by CREME::DRYE () Tue Jun 28 1988 20:04

    Does anyone have any experience or comments on the Titanium
    shaft Taylor Made woods.

    At the Atlanta Classic last weekend I noticed alot of players were
    using graphite (gold) shafts by Aldila and Taylor Made for their
    drivers.

    From what I have been told they have 40% less weight and better
    torque response than traditional sticks. My question is does this
    mean better control, distance, or no change for the same type heads.

    All comments are welcome and appreciated....

310.1Titanium vs. conventional...MSEE::KELLEYon_in_regulation, GRAPHITEWed Jun 29 1988 12:428

    The Titanium shaft definately has less torque than conventional
    shafts. A Dynamic Golf shaft in a stiff flex weighs about 4.4 oz.,
    a Titanium shaft in stiff flex weighs about 3.3 oz. More distance?
    I don't think you will see any added distance on well hit shots,
    but you will see better accuracy particularly on off center hits.

310.2THE JURY'S STILL OUT ON THIS ONEGRANPA::KVENEZIOWed Jun 29 1988 18:017
    I've just recently built one for myself and haven't had enough playing
    time with it to give you any real feedback. I do agree with Gene
    in that I haven't seen any change in distance but I have seen a
    little better accuracy. That was the reason I built it in the first
    place. I'm hoping it will keep me in the short grass.

310.3So far I love it...PEACHS::DRYEWed Jun 29 1988 19:4214
    Thanx for the replies, I just bought a Taylor Made 9.5 degree Burner
    plus with the X-stiff Titanium shaft. It listed for 159.00. I got
    them down to 129.00 and they let me take it to the range first.

    I seem to get more club head speed as opposed to a reg shaft. I
    did notice a difference in the torque. A mis-hit on the toe seemed
    to go as far and straight as a solid one. The other thing I noticed
    is my natural swing will now draw the ball as opposed to a straight
    to slight fade with reg sticks. Before I had to try to draw the
    ball with foot position and hand placement etc... After a few rounds
    I will reply back if I notice anything of intrest. If my wife finds
    out what I paid for one club she'll use it on me.

    I have tried several flexes of Titanium shafts, in different type
    heads, metal, graphite, and have been disapointed with the lack
    of feel. The flex point of these shafts is also mid, tip flexible.
    I have also tried the Aldila HM40 gold graphite/boron shafts and
    have been VERY pleased with them. I am getting more distance and
    increased accuracy, without sacrificing clubhead feel.
