268.0. "just the clubs for you...!" by MSEE::KELLEY (Keep_it_in_play, TITANIUM_X-STIFF) Wed May 11 1988 16:21

I just had the opportunity to see just the set of clubs that
we should all run out and buy...! They are Yamaha EOS, three
woods 3 - SW and putter for the mear sum of "$3,000" (that's
right there are three zeros there)...! They come with a nice
little kit that allows you to vary the swingweight on each
club by simply changing any of three screws in each club.
    	Nice idea, but $3,000...!

........or you could get 1 club that has an adjustable head. For
just $85 you could have 2 - sw. Saw it a Brookstone 'gadget' store
in the Pheasant lane mall in NH.

I suppose that was a "tongue-in-cheek" reply, but, adjustable
    clubs are illegal.
268.3I'm sure it hit just great though! :-}SMAUG::FLOWERSIBM Interconnect Eng. 226-7716Fri May 13 1988 18:344
.1 was not a "tongue-in-cheek" reply. It was really for sale! I never
knew that adjustable clubs are illegal.

the pga use to market a set of clubs through your local pro shop
that the pro could adjust the swingweight of each club by using
some lead powder or something similar..the were good sellers acording
to one pro shop I've been at but then they discontinued them for
    who knows what reason......

the cost was about 525-625 for 3-pw....

    re:.2/.3

are they really illegal???? as long as the club is not varied during
a round of golf it isn't illegal....some pro's are forever adjusting
their clubs (lie,loft,weight,shafts..etc.) but it is done between
competitive rounds and not while in combat....

of course if I bought the club refered to I would want to adjust
it for each shot i.e. from 2iron on tee shots to 8-9-w for approaches
and it would be illegal to do that if competing...but for practice
    or friendly rounds...!!!

268.5Adjusting the Rules?FRSBEE::GARYTue May 17 1988 18:216
Sounds like just the ticket for a three club tournament. But I
suppose someone might get suspicious if I showed up with two clubs
and one of them was a putter. :^)

    re.4

clubs that you can change the swingweight are not considered to
be of the "adjustable" variety. Changing loft, lie, length, etc
is considered adjustable. I don't believe you can change a club
during a round, either changing one putter for another unless you
had both in your bag when you started and only had 14 clubs maximum.
someone will get out the rule book, mine is in my bag.

       re .6:

The rules allow you to replace a club that has become "unfit for
       play".

(And you should have at least two rule books -- on in your bag and
one at your terminal. A third one for the porcelain room library
       isn't a bad idea, either.)
