162.0. "Classic Clubs/Great Courses" by PIGGY::VARLEY () Wed Nov 04 1987 01:43

    Does anyone have any interest in collecting, swapping, buying or
    selling "Classic" clubs ? I'd like to start a little interest in
    this area and hope some of you also dabble in this.
    I'm also interested in golf history and architecture. Anyone have
    any thoughts on great courses they have played, or would like to
    play ? Might be an interesting way to forget about Winter...

    Regards,

    Jack.

162.1"ANOTHER GOLF COLLECTOR"OURVAX::GLASSMon Feb 29 1988 11:1613
    Hi,
    I have been involved with golf since 1949 and collect clubs.I would
    always be interested in "good buys" and especially in MacGregor
    or even McGregor!

    During my high school/service/college and business golf,I have gotten
    to play many of the Top 100 courses.Also got to play many great
    courses while being assigned to the Ayr,Scotland facility.

    Would enjoy hearing more from other collectors and I could go on
    for hours with golf "war stories" to include a match with Orville
    Moody in Korea in 1954!!!!!!!

162.2how to begin?BMT::FERRESTue Mar 15 1988 16:009
    I'd like to begin collecting old clubs - am interested in
    representative 'types' from various eras, discriminated on
    the basis of the evolution in new ideas and technologies to
    build them. I'd like to hear from people as to how they
    go about finding old clubs, what they buy/like, rough ideas
    of cost, etc.

162.3Is this an old club?HPSRAD::POULSENThu Dec 06 1990 17:2716
My son found and old club in his grandfathers cellar. The face has a dot
pattern instead of face lines. On the sole it has an 8 and an imprint
of a hand. The back of the club looks like this:

                George Micoll

      LEVEN FIFE SCOTLAND

      Z                   RUSTLESS

     PINSPLITTER

The name (George Micoll) is a signature not typed. The club looks more
like a sandwedge than an 8 iron. Has anyone ever seen a club like this?

    A friend of mine knows someone that found a set of Royal clubs in his
    grandfather's cellar, he estimates them to be 50 years old. does anyone
    know if they are worth anything.

    thanks
