1147.0. "configuration tree invalid, no eisa adapter" by CSC32::S_ILGEN () Tue Mar 25 1997 22:49

I have an 8400 and I'm unable to run the kzpsa utility:util_cli.
Attempting to run this utility yields: "configuration tree invalid
no eisa adapter. Unlike the notesfile entry # 1094.1, we do
not have an SIO option. We have downgraded the firmware to
srm = 4.1 from srm = 4.8, but the problem persists. We must
	modify the kzpsa's, but how????
						thanks

You can try "load kzpsa", and then "kzpsa_edit". I usually use this to
change the scsibus id...so "kzpsa_edit bus", gives you the scsibus ID,
and lets you change. Not sure what else you can do with it..

1147.2not just the kzp util ...DYPSS1::SCHAFERWed Mar 26 1997 20:598
actually, sally posted this as a result of my customer's call ...

they don't want to do a kzpsa_edit ... they want to run the utility to
examine *all* parameters on their 13 KZPs. in fact, it would be nice
to run any of the utilities, but nothing will run because the blasted
machine can't find an eisa bus.

    any other hints?

I opened an IPMT case for this problem and received the following response:

Hello,
I have found the problem with the firmware and have implemented a change.

The firmware previously would check for a SIO before adding any EISA devices
to the system configuration and would fail if it didn't find one. The new
code will now add EISA devices only when it finds an EISA bus.

The next release AXP CD release is not for a month or more. I can make a
interim release of the console firmware if needed.
Otherwise, the fix will be in the next release, AXP V4.0 CD. The version
will be V4.9-xxx.

Please move this case to solution submitted.

    1. Detailed Problem Information.
       -----------------------------
The following problem was discovered when trying to change the default
SCSI IDs of fourteen KZPSAs installed in an 8400 that will be part of
        a UNIX DECsafe configuration:

Utilities (such as the parameter setting programs for the KZPSA, KZPSC,
KZESC and ISP1020-based controllers) can't be run from the Alpha
firmware CDROM unless there is a KFE70 PCI->EISA bridge installed in
the system. Attempting to run the utilities without a KFE70 produces
the error message "Configuration tree invalid, no eisa adapter". This
is reproduceable at will and appears to be a console bug. The problem
is present in V4.8-6 of the console, and note 1147 in the TURBOLASER
conference indicates that it was present at least as far back as
        console V4.1.

There is a partial workaround available, in that there are undocumented
        built-in console utilies (i.e. kzpsa_edit and isp1020_edit) that can
perform most of the functions of the UTIL_CLI and EEROMCFG utilities on
the firmware CDROM. However, I know of no alternative to the KZPSC and
KZESC RAID controllers' stand-alone configuration utility.

        A sample failure follows:

        P00>>>show dev isp3
polling for units on isp3, slot 5, bus 0, hose0...
        dkd0.0.0.5.0 DKd0 RRD43 1084

        P00>>>run util_cli -d dkd0 -p 1
