Not to hurt anyone's feelings ..but I do believe Ford made a big mistake
building and labeling those as a Cobras. UGH!

What was the name of that movie about the guy who was an alien and
he had the magic marbles and he created himself in image of this
chicks dead husband. I wanna say it was Jeff Bridges as the alien.
Anyway, they go tearing off through the country in one of them there
    corbras...

    AJ,
It was Jeff Bridges in the Cobra...funny movie (in parts)

but the car was still a "butt ugly" reskinned pinto. (almost as bad as my
    Falcon :-) )

Actually, I asked Dave to start this topic 'cause you guys were talking
about the Shelby GT-350's and GT-500's as if THEY were real Cobra's. I
started note 84 for information on the earlier '63-'67 (or "whatever" if
I missed a year there) Cobra's and the kit car versions which are a bit
more affordable to some of us. Although I like some of the Mustang
    Cobra's (particularly, the '69 convertibles), I thought they shouldn't
be in that topic. As for the Mustang II's, ha-ha-ha, we all know they
    aren't even real cars!!

Gee, I was hopin' Dave would move 84.62 - 84.68 to this topic...

SuperFord mentioned a '93 Mustang Cobra "last months issue?".

Sounds good, but it was news to the Ford dealer when I asked
    about it today!

I kinda thought that was the idea but Mustang Cobra
is the wrong title :-). It should be "Shelby Mustangs".
The cars are generally refered to as Shelby
GT 350s or Shelby mustangs, but not as Mustang Cobras. The
cars do have the cobra emblems, though.

92.10Not all Ford dealers will have 'emHSOMAI::HARDMANLife's too short to drive a HondaTue Jun 23 1992 01:019
Randy, not all Ford dealers will be able to sell the new Mustang. My
sister-in-laws husband owns a Ford dealership in Mass. In May he told
me that he was trying to become an 'Authorized SVO Dealer'. He says
that Ford is planning to come out with some pretty nasty versions of
the Mustang and some trucks soon, but they'll only be available from
certain dealers. Time will tell if they actually pull it off!

92.11Wish I could afford a Ford lately...GOLF::WILSONTue Jun 23 1992 13:1914
Harry, this nasty Mustang - is it based on the current rear wheel
drive V8, or the next generation model?

FWIW, I saw a '93 Probe at the Ford show in Nashua on Sunday. Quite
a machine! Not like the current version that is bought only by female
recent college grads after they get their first real paycheck. This
one has a nasty looking injected V6, 4 wheel discs, and a bunch of
other go-fast goodies. A friend of mine just bought a '93 Mazda MX6
which is the same car, and he says it's a rocketship. Apparently
Ford is serious about their performance cars going into the mid-90's.

Now, if we only felt secure enough about our jobs to actually buy one!

Rick, I think it's still the current platform. He didn't mention any
    new body style.

92.13I drove a '95 Mustang "Cobra"SOLVIT::BRAMSONThu Jul 27 1995 15:3015
FWIW,I actually drove a '95 version of the Mustang Cobra. It was
comfortable, handled well, had a v e r y precise five speed tranny,
and sounded good. Aside from all that, it didn't feel quick but you
knew it was by watching the speedo.

    For the price, I got a '95 Z28 with a 6-speed. It handles better,
sounds better, is as least as quick, BUT the tranny does not feel as
good as the one in the mustang. One other point is that the Z28 can
be had with traction control in case one has to take the vehicle out
in inclement weather. Overall, I am not disappointed.

Supposedly the 32 valve OHC Lincoln Mark VIII V8 will be making its way
into some mustangs in '96. This may be a Z28 assassin, but I would
venture to guess that they will be very expensive and hard to get.
Let's see what FoMoCO really does.
92.141996 Mustang CobraSORICH::DAUGHERTYMon Oct 30 1995 18:1235

FWIW, I just bought a '96 Mustang "Cobra". I've been watching
this notes file and was happy to see people are running real
    	13.7's bone stock.

This is my first "musclecar"...I grew up with sports cars, had
an opportunity (and need) to get a new car, and the timing was
    	right for a new Mustang.

I was looking for a performance car I could live with (reasonable
performance with a reasonable amount of harshness)...test drove
a few of the new "sports cars", test drove a Z28 and 5.0 GT and
ended up liking the Mustang for the more seating position and
the quietness (but I did like the Camaro). Read the road tests
on the Cobra and made some phone calls on got one from Grappone
    	a couple of weeks ago.

All around very nice car...managed 1200 miles in the first week.

The only complaint I can come up with at this point is the
steering's a bit light (less feel than I'd like) during high
speed cornering. But it does handle well, power feels good, and
    	has great brakes...very competent car.

The price is up from Mustang/Camaro/Firebird norms but overall the
price/performance of these cars is outstanding when you look at the
rest of the market. And these are not just straight line
    	performance cars.

I won't be adding any drag racing experiences, I race cheaper
vehicles (sleds and quads) but will be interested in watching
how the Mustangs do (and where this motor is going) at the
    	strip.
