2833.0. "NEURAL NETWORKS and synthesis" by PIANST::JANZEN (Tom MLO21-4/E10 223-5140) Thu Jan 23 1992 16:28

	When will neural networks render digital synthesis obsolete?
	Where is a schematic for a neural oscillator?

2833.1Good beginner books?COMET::BELLMJThu Jan 23 1992 18:0210
    Yeah!

    I know this isn't really music oriented, but where's the best place to
    look for elementary concepts in neural network processing? Are there
    any recommended books?

    I think non binary computers should start popping up a lot, maybe even
    in the music field.

	Seriously, neural nets would find a perfect application in listening
	to music and transcribing it into a MIDI file.

    And if it was able to that (transcribing), maybe it could also be
    used to "unmix" a recording. For example, take a recording, and produce
    a multi-track version, each track being a particular instrument.

    Unfortunately, ABBOTT:: is fairly sparse. I wish there was a forum
    that discussed beginner concepts in more detail. I did find some
    references to books that scratch the surface so I can start diddling
    around with it.
