2795.0. "Comments on Yamaha PSR 500 & SY55" by SOLVIT::KEITH (Real men double clutch) Fri Dec 20 1991 11:35

I would like opinions on the Yamaha PSR 500 and the Yamaha SY 55

My son (15) has passed the toy kybd level and is need of more. He
currently is taking piano lessons and is quite good. He really wants to
layer music. We do not own a MAC or PC for the MIDI end.

    Any comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Steve

There are a variety of "getting started" topics in here dealing with
the Yamaha PSR series. The Yamaha SY55 also has a key word which should
    point to some good info.

Please check out those notes before continuing this string.

    Hi,
A MaC or PC is not required to enjoy midi, a basic midi keyboard and
inexpensive SGU will provide lots of enjoyment and education. In
addition, these items will remain part of your (his) midi setup as his
    interest and expertise grows.

PC do offer incredible flexibility but he'll still need the basics
    learned on the above stuff.

While a PC is nice for things like sequencing etc. Many of us manage
to do quite well with the current crop of rather inexpensive dedicated
hardware sequencers currently available. Several in the $ 3-500 range
offer powerfull preformance at a resonable price.

Come on in the waters fine, good luck, happy holidays.
