2657.0. "Anologue units with MIDI" by IGETIT::BROWNM (My underpants are festooned with Horsefly) Tue Jun 04 1991 16:54

    I trying to find out which Analogue Units have MIDI. So far I have;

Roland Juno 106, Korg Poly 800 and Sequential Prophet 600 (I think).

    Are there any more?

2657.1More analog with MIDICTHULU::YERAZUNISFire walk with meTue Jun 04 1991 17:158

Oberheim Xpander, Matrix-6, Matrix-12, and Matrix-1000 are analog
inside (real analog oscillators and filters), and have MIDI I/O.

Ensoniq ESQ-1 and SQ-80 have digital oscillators (wavetables) but have
    analog filters.

Mustn't forget all the Roland stuff like the MKS-80, (and
-70,-50,-30,-7 if you count DCO machines with analog filters).

And then there's the all important Waldorf Microwave wavetable/analog
filter machine (lots of LFOs). This is a decendant of the PPG stuff.
    Nick Rothwell worships his.

Kawai made the K3 and K5, which had analog filters.

Akai made the VX90 and (now) the VX600, which are DCO and VCOs
    respectively.

    MemoryMoog.

Rhodes (ARP) Chroma with retrofit, or Chroma Polaris with native MIDI.

Korg Polysix (with retrofit). Mono-Poly was retrofitted (3rd party),
    too.

Oberheim Xpander, worshiped by Metlay. Probably the most powerful
non-modular analog unit ever made. Has internal modules, and some very
    unique and useful ones.

    Oberheim Matrix series.

And I know I have missed some....

	Many of Professional's Masterpiece synthesizers
has MIDI option or retrofit kit or customized by
	'synthesizer smithes'.

	ex:
	Sequencial Prophet 5,Prophet T8,
MIDIMOOG (MIDI and rackmount custom ver.of MINIMOOG),
Oberheim 2 voice(MIDI and rackmount custom ver.)

	and...
	Oberheim OB-8,PPG Wave 2.2,2.3(not VCO,Digital wave
	seqencer like Ensoniq VFX)has MIDI.

If you get MIDI-CV converter, old module synthesizers
	can play by MIDI.
	like Moog 55,Roland system 100M,ARP 2500,etc.
but Module synthesizer's CV (Control Voltage)has two
	different style,1V/oct(Moog,Roland...) and Hz/V.(Korg,
	etc..)you must check this point.

I have Roland system 100M,but MIDI-CV converter is not
	on catalogue now.

Hi there !

Given that the analog synth has CV you can MIDI-ate it. There's a fairly priced
board available from a German company called Doepfer, that has selectable CV
method like explained in .4. If anyone wants to know more about it I could find
out.

    Don't forget the Roland Jupiter-6 and Jupiter-8...

I have a Jupiter-6, it understands MIDI, but doesn't have the system
exclusive capability. All saving/loading of patches must be done
    by tape...

Hi Richard,
I want to know about MIDI-CV converter in your article.
How much its price?
How spec it has?
I'm interested in the Hz/V-Oct/V selectable feature.
There was Hz/V-Oct/V from Korg 10 years ago,
but I've not seen it.
I want more info.
