2649.0. "Miracle keyboard in DAK catalog" by EREMO::BULLARD () Tue May 28 1991 14:52

Is anyone familiar with the Miracle Keyboard advertised
in the DAK catalogue (mail order). It has pressure sensitive
keys, 140 some voices/rythyms, built in stereo speakers and
has midiports. The most interesting thing about this keyboard
is that it gives you lessons via nintendo. The nintendo cartridge
gives you 36 lesson (beginner to advanced songs), when playing
these songs it analyses your most significant errors and has
275 'arcade style' exercises to work out timing, note reading
and etc.... problems. The price is almost unbelievable at $219.00.
Since I am thinking of getting one of these for my daughter, I
would appreciate any comments on the value, usefulness and
    quality of this keyboard.

    Thanks,
    chuck

    Chuck,

I bought a miracle system for my wife several months ago, it appeared
to live up to the "sales" claims, however after 6 or 7 lessons, we
ended up returning it. My wife lost interest in it, always finding
something else to do instead of taking the lessons. She has since
started lessons with a live teacher and is doing we'll. She requires
the motivation of a person and the deadline of being prepared for her
    lesson.

As far as the miracle itself, it appeared pretty nice. It give
immediate feedback, adjusts the lessons and via demos etc. shows
how something is suppose to sound.

If you'd like, feel free to call me and I'll provide as much relevant
info as possible. Our problem was with motivation not the device.

Oh by the way, I paid $299, $ 219 appears a good deal.

Thanks for the reply. I know what you mean by the motivation
aspect. I was the same way with my guitar, until I started taking
lessons. I took piano lessons as a child and can still play ok,
but a little rusty. If I was to buy this for my daughter, I would
definately get a commitment before hand and hold her to it. Also
I could help her get through the rough spots on the personal level
that a machine could'nt. Does this sound like it will work?

    thanks,
    chuck
2649.3Now available for IBM pc & AMIGAMACNAS::MERLEHANMon Aug 26 1991 07:5111

The "Miracle" is now available for the IBM PC and the AMIGA with
extended facilities but a high price (300 pounds sterling).

Any sucess stories with the above device or a better combination of
keyboard and software (preferably on the AMIGA) to learn to play the piano ?

    Regards

Well I finally bought the keyboard I asked about in .0. I am
VERY happy with it! My wife and daughter have taken a very strong
interest in learning to play it.
Can anyone give me pointers to the topics on the basics of what
MIDI is and the cost of neccesary equipment to compose, store,
    edit, playback and etc. ?

    Thanks,
     Chuck

Chuck, this is probably the best place outside of a music equipment
manufacturer to obtain the information you seek. However, it doesn't
come easy, because of the almost 3000 topics in here, plus the scope of
the topics you want pointers to is pretty wide. There are keywords
established for most major concepts. For example, popular personal
computers have layered software/hardware offerings allowing you to
"compose, store, edit, playback" and more.. there is a recent topic
duking out what computer platform is "best", with lots of
participation. You could also find a hardware-based MIDI sequencer
that gives you most of what you seek.

Take a look at 2407. That was my "beginner note". I think it has a lot of
beginner info and pointers to other stuff.
