2613.0. "Prices for rack mount multi-FX unit for visitor from UK" by MALLET::BARKER (Pretty Damn Cosmic) Thu Apr 11 1991 09:59

I'll be visiting Nashua from the UK in about 10 days time and given the
good exchange rate vs. $ that we Brits are enjoying at the moment I'm in the
market for a rack mount multi-FX unit.

I'd like to know the going price for such units as the ART SGE, DSP 128,
DSP 256, Yamaha FX500, BOSS SE50 etc etc. I might also be interested in a
second hand unit if anyone has one for sale.

I'd also appreciate any advice from UK noters as regards what will
happen when I return to the UK. Will customs duties negate any savings?

Nigel

2613.1Here's a couple...TLE::ALIVE::ASHFORTHThe Lord is my lightThu Apr 11 1991 10:4020
Re basenote:

Well, I checked out FX boxes a little while ago, just long enough to find out
that I can't quite yet afford what I want. (*Sigh*) The two units I recall
prices for were the ART Multiverb III and the DSP 128+; the lowest prices I
could find were $315 and $285, respectively, from a mailorder place called
"Sound mumblemumble-" I got it from the "dealers" note in this conference.

Now of course, there's Daddy's Junky Music right here in Nashua, and they'll
match any verifiable price you quote them. (And, of course, if you haven't
checked out the market they'll hit you for a bit more markup than they really
have to!)

My own choice of the above two settled on the Multiverb, but in gathering info
I got a lot of raves about the DSP unit from guitarists, FWIW.

Happy hunting.

Cheers,
	Bob

Don't forget the power issue. Most US units are sold for US voltages
only (unlike units for foreign countries where invariably they are set
up for multi-voltage operation). Next bext thing to multi-voltage
operation is a wall bug supply, which is easy to replace.

Musician's Friend is selling the DSP256 for $299 now. They've come out
with a DSP256 XL and the DSP128+ has been discontinued. The XL goes
    for around $360.
