2608.0. "ROLAND ROM CARDS" by ISIDRO::ISIDRO () Fri Apr 05 1991 07:00

I' m interested in ROLAND ROM cards such as PN-D10-01 etc..

Is anybody using them?. Are nice new patches, timbers and rythm tones?

Also, please, reply with some dealer addres to buy them by mail or fax.
I have not found in my country.

What about prices over there? RAM cards like M256D are also in my list.

	 Thanks in advance.

2608.1I've got one...MSTRD::MURRAYFri Apr 05 1991 16:019
I bought the SN-U110-01 rom card that's got pipe organ and harpsichord
on it. The voices are pretty good, but the organ lacks the
window-rattling bass I'd expect from a real church organ. But I'm
incredibly fussy, and my expectations are about 20 years ahead of the
    technology, maybe more.

Anyhow, i bought the card at Wurlitzer's for $65, but you can get them
for less than that at Caruso's. Dealer addresses appear in one of the
    early notes in this file.

I think this note should have been posted in 1200.* You will also find
comments on D10 cards in note 1396, and you might try 1219 and 1409.

Note that you must get the right ROM cards for your Synth. I don't
think U110 Rom cards can be used on a D110.

I think I'll reply here until the mods move things.

As far as the D70 goes, here are some details. The D70 can't use cards
for other D models (D5/10/20/50/110/550). These are the PN-D50 series.
The D70 uses SN-U110 cards except for the following:

    	- LATIN SETUP and F.X.SETUP from Card SN-U110-02 (Latin and FX
    	  Percussion)

    	- 28.N.DANCE from Card SN-U110-08 (Synthesizer)

    	- The Card SN-U110-10 (Rock Drums)

There is only one card that has been released especially for the D70
which is the SN-SPLA-01 card. Beacause of software restrictions it
appears that there can only be as many as 32 cards in each of the U110
    and SPLA series.

Lisa Ventriglia of Wurly's tells me that the only U110 card that really
works well for the D70 is the Sax card. I think it's SN-U110-11 or
-12. There are two cards that have orchestral stuff that I might be
interested in. But, it seems that using U110 cards for a D70 is just
an interim solution. For example, the D70 doesn't use multiple
original tones for a sound while some cards do. So, you waste a whole
PCM as a result. I suspect there are other incompatibilities that lead
to disappointment with using U110 cards in a D70. The single SPLA card
that's available seems to focus on more synth sounds and not acoustics.
What I'd like to see are orchestral and latin percussion cards for the
D70. That's probably when I'll jump to get some PROM cards.

The RAM card for a D70 seems to me to be great for someone that will be
doing gigging. I don't think you really need that kind of power very
often in the studio as the internal memory seems sufficient for
individual songs and you can probably afford the time to download a new
    configuration over MIDI.
