2581.0. "Kurzweil 1200 Pro Series" by MIDI::DAN (Dan Gosselin, HyperHelp development) Mon Feb 25 1991 13:58

Well, it looks like it's finally a reality. Dave Orin had mentioned way back
in 2052.7 (20-July-1989) that it would be forthcoming.

Some details from the latest EM rag:

SPECS:

162 presets (K250 sounds and new timbres)
24 voice polyphony
16 part multitimbral operation
6 MB of sound ROM.

255 user RAM locations for programs, perfromance setups,
  and user-created sequences.

3 independent zones, each with 4 overlapping layers or splits.

MIDI controllers can be programmed to control:
LFO and envelope rates and depths, layer balance,
amplitude and pitch control, and more.

Compatible with Kurzweil's Object Mover software.

PACKAGING:

K1200 Pro 88 ($2995) and Pro &6 ($2595) feature velocity and
pressure sensitive , weighted keyboards with 88 and 76 keys,
  respectively.

The Pro 1 ($1595) is a 2U rack-mount version.

With the exception of more addressable patch locations (MIDI, are you
listening?), the 24-voice, 6Mb architecture make it sound awfully like
a 1000 with the PXA upgrade.

So does anyone know what this machine's got that the Proteus doesn't
have? The Proteus is cheaper and has more voices. Why buy this one
    instead?

Exactly the question I posed Rick Cohen (of Kurzweil/Young-Chang). His
answer was "the Kurzweil sounds!" True but not sufficient at that
    price, methinks.

2581.4Rackmount = 1000PX + KXA + Version 5 OSRTL::RTL::TOTTONMon Mar 11 1991 19:498
In talking with tech. specialist at YC, the 1000PX + the PXA sound block
and the V5 OS is the same as the rack mount module. And in fact, in reading
the V5 addendum that I got with my new chip set, indeed it talks about the
keyboard products as well. I think that makes my discounted 1000PX with
the upgrade a real bargain...
